Winterizing Your Scooter
Every Spring we find ourselves replacing a lot of batteries and cleaning a lot of fuel systems. This is great for us, but not so great for the customers who have to pay the repair bills. Unfortunately, no warranty covers the problems that result from seasonal neglect.
In addition to the cost of these repairs, disposing of old, toxic batteries and bad gasoline is a nasty chore.
In order to save our customers money, and save the environment at the same time, we are providing these instructions to you. If any of the following things seem too technical, feel free to give us a call for assistance at (801) 434-4536.
Step One: Protect from the elements. Do this by parking in a garage, or by covering the scooter. We have some nice, durable covers available starting at $36.99
Step Two: Stabilize the fuel. There are a few ways to do this. The simplest is to just add some fuel stabilizer to the gas tank, start the motor and let it run for about 5 minutes, then relax with a nice cup of hot chocolate. We don't sell hot chocolate, but we have fuel stabilizer for $5.50/bottle. (Each bottle will treat up to 10 Gal.)
Step Three: Properly store the battery. Ideally, remove the battery and store it inside, in a safe place like the laundry room. Put it on some cardboard, hook it up to a trickle/float charger and leave out a plate of milk and cookies. We have a good charger for only $15. Lots cheaper than a new battery.
