Product Description

The Malossi "Over Range" transmission system takes full advantage of Malossi components that make the entire system particularly suited to the enormous power available.

The Malossi Over Range is an integral power transmission system, which consists of a continuous, automatic gearbox offering endless possibilities. With the Over Range, Malossi’s technicians have achieved the aim to exploit the maximum power curve of a modified engine. As a result, an installed Over Range system will see gains in both take-off and top speed. To obtain these results, each key component of the power transmission has been completely redesigned, with only a few secondary components being identical to those built by Malossi in the past.

The Malossi Over Range Transmission System comes complete with the Malossi Multivar/Multivar 2000, an X Kevlar Belt, and a complete rear pulley system (fixed pulley, torque driver, 2 O-Rings, nut, pin, spring guide, 2 oil seals, and grease).

The Over Range Transmission was engineered to keep the engine at its maximum turning power level when accelerating and running at full speed.
When paired with a Malossi Racing Delta Cluch, Wing Clutch Bell/Safety Clutch Bell (see note below), or an upgear kit the Over Range transmission will reach its peak performance level, seeing even more performance gains.

This transmission system hinges on the new Fixed Pulley of the torque driver that has a larger diameter and the very latest specifications. The larger diameter pulley allows one to have a greater velocity-ratio range compared to the original pulley that has a notably smaller external diameter. Malossi engineers have also taken particular care in designing this pulley right down to the smallest detail, using special materials and a particular type of thermochemical treatment that ensures exceptional surface hardness and therefore excellent wear and abrasion resistance. This new fixed pulley has been designed to offer perfect running when coupled to the Malossi Torque Driver that has the same diameter as the fixed pulley itself.

In order to fully exploit the range of the new torque driver unit and the power ratings currently offered by competition machines, a new notched Kevlar Belt is included. With larger sections, a revised length, and better material, the X Kevlar drive belt is an essential component to ensure gearbox efficiency and maximum performance under all running conditions.

To complete the transmission system and take full advantage of its exceptional specifications, the Multivar variable-speed drive has also been upgraded by fitting it with new tracks for the rollers and a new hub. This new variable-speed drive represents the evolution of the previous generations, the result of many years experience on the race circuit and the currently available CAD-CAM technology that allows top-level specifications to be obtained.


Note: To install the new wider range variator on Minarelli and Yamaha engines, you have to remove the components of the electrical starting system located inside the drive casing. (A small price to pay.)

Note: Each Over Range component has a different design and geometry than stock parts. For this reason you must install this transmission system as a whole.

Note: The Malossi reinforced clutch cap Saftey Clutch Bell has the function of protecting the user from a possible explosion of the clutch assembly. The innovative element of the Malossi reinforced clutch cap is a steel explosion-proof ring fixed on the outside of the cap itself. The cap is made of special steel with tight concentricity tolerances, and is dynamically balanced. This protection was introduced at first in the racing scene, where this dangerous occurrence was rather frequent due to the high revs normally reached. The centrifugal force developed by the rotation of a system increases to the square of the number of revs. Considering that normally the clutch assembly has a rotating speed of about 12.000 rpm, in particular conditions it may reach and exceed 20.000 rpm, and cause the explosion of the clutch assembly. Therefore, Malossi recommends the use of this high-tech product to anybody using scooters in order to ensure its highest safety.
