Ok dumb question #231
How do I get the battery out of the scooter (Vino)?
I removed the panel and the screw from the battery box cover but I can't get the cover off.
Does it clip on the side opposite where the screw was?
Another 5 minutes messing with it and I'm going to break it off!
ARRGH!

there are 2 press in clips about 1" from the screws (towards the rear of the scooter)..

Give it a little tug... it'll pop right off...

I also had to take three screws under the seat, and remove the complete battery case. Why? I could not pull the cable attached to the battery. Why again? Because the cable attached to the battery has to much black tape and can not be pull out unless I remove the complete battery box. Not to bad after I figure out why I could not reach the battery plug.

oh... that sounds strange to me...

You can't get to the battery terminals without removing the battery?

That makes no since? how can you "jump" it if you can't get to the terminals with it installed?

Can you post a pic?

Sorry I cant I already took the battery out. Here is what happen. I removed the front panel, then took the screw out from the battery case. Then I attempted to pull the battery out, expecting for the battery and wire to come out, unplug and that was it. Well I was wrong, I finally pulled the battery, but the plug did not come out, I attempted to use a long nose plier without success. Then I open the seat cover, they are three screws under the seat, if you take the screws out, the complete battery case comes out. At that time, the battery plug came out with the case. It looks that Yamaha, wrapped to much black tape and it is too thick to move from the back of the battery case. Then I tried to keep the wire in the top of the case, but as soon as I try to insert the battery case back, the wire moves back. I believe the wire is short. In my case, I guess, is Spring, I will have to remove the battery case, connect the baterry and then insert the battery case back. A little bit of pain, but oh well. Other than that. I did change my trans oil. After replacing the oil, I let the scooter run for 5 or so minutes, and now is winterized. (I hope).

the vino, and that unique battery i think its the only yamaha scooter with 1 like that, but maybe the newer zuma also.

the new zuma, you take 2 screws out and pull the cover off... full access to the battery!

Very simple set up...

Okay one more question about the Vino removing of the battery. I removed the battery and I am aware that I can start the scooter with the kickstart. I am not sure, but did I read somewhere here in the forum that is not a good idea to start it without the battery installed? Can I warm up the scooter every few weeks (10-15 minutes, move the parts, etc) with the kickstart and no battery until early spring. Will I have any future damages to the electronics if I am starting the scooter in winter with the kickstart and no battery. Thank you again.

um... I thought people run them without batteries all the time...

however I'm not sure... Lennox... any thoughts?

I'll do some internet research and ask my local shop and try and get some answers in a day or so...
