I just purchased a 2004 Yamaha Vino for $900 from some old man who barely rode it.

It has 270 miles on it right now. It seems like it takes a little while to get up to 35 if it can go that fast.

I already have the exact same scooter, 2004 Yamaha Vino that has 3000 miles that my roomate is going to buy from me. Its faster and will get up to 35 pretty fast.

My question is : Will newer (less ridden one) be as fast as the older one after it gets broken in? If so how long will this take? Any tips for the break in phase?

A 2 stroke de-restricted Vino should easily reach close to 40-41 mph, you either need to check tires, plug or make sure you have good gas.

Thats what I was thinking, is it totally derestricted??

i have a feeling the guy hasnt used it at all except maybe turning it on (for the past few months)

I really dont think its been unrestricted since some old guy had it and since it has so few miles on it.

well pull off the ehxaust and check for the restrictor washer. also check your tires for correct pressure.

If it wasn't derestricted, it wouldn't go over 30mph. Pull the trans case cover and clean out the belt dust. It you have the tools, pull the variator and make sure the rollers are clean also. Put the variator nut back on with an air gun or torch wrench or you will be buying a crankshaft like in another post.

Ok I derestricted it and it feels alot better

Throttle feels way more responsive, gets up to 35 pretty quick

I have a 2001 Vino. Is the variator and exhaust both restricted on this model? If so how hard are these to de regulate.

yest both arer restricted on the 01 Vino, see the how to's above. Not very hard to do, just time consuming for the exhaust unless you have the right tools (i.e a dremel tool)

I live in Durango Colorado and the scooter has a hard time going uphill. Do I need to change the weights in the variator? Or maybe the jet in the carb? Or should I just try to de regulate it first?

Tuning your weights will help some on the hills. I've heard you can also change the big spring on the clutch if it's not "gearing down" properly.
