Im very interested in changing the lighting on my Zuma. Specifically I would like to change the blinkers and brake lights to LED's and I wouldlike to talk to anyone that has done this mod already.

If theres a thread that discusses this or any other electrical issues that could be helpful you can link me there but I did a search and couldnt find anything.

IF anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. thanks

you will need an electronic flasher relay. I recommend the Acumen Unit. Do a google search for Acumen. It will need splicing in place of the existing unit, its an easy install with basic tools.

Is this what your talking about?

If I wanted to convert my front and rear blinkers and rear tail lights to LED's how hard of a mod would this be and what all would I need? Thanks

Yes that the unit i'm talking about..... The universal fitment version. As to parts required.... Replacement lights or led bulbs to suit existing housings, electronic relay, gas solder iron and solder, wire cutters and strippers (not women... sorry) and screwdrivers. Its fairly easy to do but a basic electrical knowledge would be a plus. Need more advice then just ask, good luck.

What about a cathode light like this:

for an underbody light? Would that work?

I'm pretty certain we were talking about blinkers... In any case I would get something water proof.

I also have heard although i'm not sure how true it is but after a certain amount of use the underbody light you just mentioned can burn up literally...... ie melt the wire right back to the power source.... Info obtained from local motorcycle dealer. We were however discussing led flashers and led brake lights rather that underbody lighting.

cathode tubes are a horrible choice. they are so sensitive to vibration and run super high voltages. use led bars for underlighting.

can you point me in the direction of some LED bars for underbody lighting that you would recommend. im looking at adding this also with the blinkers.

str8dium, i'll take some pics of what I've done so far, but basically I've removed all the stock flashers, and fabricated my own front flush mounts and have put rear signals in the pockets next to the brake light. Also I have just finished a brake light led consisting of 50 30,000mcd red leds, it has 18 for running and the full 50 for braking. I'm trying to figure out a good way to make these available to other zuma'rs and bws'rs. The tail on a bws is perfect for leds as there is room in the pockets next to the brake light for signal leds and they shine right thru the stock red lenses. I did see somewhere that you can get yellow lenses for those side pockets as well. On a side note, I made a flasher relay from a schematic i found on google and it works great, consists of a few parts and is based around the cheap 555 timer chip and is pretty inexpensive to make. All the leds come from an ebay supplier and are 55 degree wide angle 10 mm leds, not the smaller 5mm ones that are used for most things. My supplier also offers 1 watt leds similar to the ones used for traffic lights, super bright is all I can say. PM me for more in depth info.

The first 3 pics are the front signals right after fabrication, and the last two are the rear signals mounted in the pockets and rear left signal light on with lenses mounted.

these are the front signals with just the running lights, next pic is left signal light on, and last one is the new led brake light waiting to be installed. The lighting was a bit hard to capture with the camera as it was night out, but notice the brightness on the front signals even though the flash on the camera was still on.
