Okay... with having removed the oil tank... Is there a way to remove the oil pump?

Lennox touched on it possibly burning up if it is left unplugged...

IMO it's probably not a big deal... let it burn up.... but I don't want it to slow the engine or cause engine damage...

Just want to know if anyone has removed the oil pump? Where is it and do you need to plug a hole on the engine case?

I'll be looking into this as well for anyone who is going that route as well...

this is a pic of the engine case...

Can't tell from the diagrams what the story is with the pump...

When I install my new cylinder I will check out the pump and possibility of removing it.

It looks as though the oil pump fits into part number

31 4SC-E5462-00-00 GASKET, CRANKCASE COVER 3 1 <--- from the case picture

It appears as though you might be able to take part number 5 off of the oil pump and then assemble it back into the engine as is...

This should cause the gear from spinning... making the pump basically a plug for the hole... and disabling it so there is no oil or air in a removed oil tank set up...

I haven't done this yet so if someone does accomplish this, make sure that nothing is loose when you reinstall it...

It also looks like part 6 and 7 from the oil pump pic shouldn't be reinstalled... as it looks as though they would come off the pump with little effort...

I will be accomplishing this when I get my MHR cylinder... So I'll post more pics at that time as well add it to the HOW TO for the oil tank removal.

Yes, for all who noticed... I asked the question, did the research and posted the answer before anyone else had an opprotunity to even read the thread...

wouldn't this stop the oil from lubricating the crank?

The pump comes off with just two bolts and it is driven by the crank on the outside of the actual crankcase, so you do not really have to plug the hole. I did plug the hole on mine just so road grit doesent get in there. I used a rubber plug I got from ace hardware. you will need to plug the hole in the line nipple on the carb though so you dont get a airleak. Also the crank is lubricated from inside so removing the pump wont affect the crank.

When we updated the forum software earlier this year the old how-to section become incompatible. We took all the how-tos (at least we are still in the process) and transferred them to the wiki (http://www.provoscooter.com/wiki)

They are under "Forum Articles" Both the tank removal and the pump disable article are there.

Here are the links. I just transfered them to the wiki from the old site:
