In all honesty, just buy a pipe. You will get the performance you need, without the heckle and needless attempts to get a stock pipe to really perform.

pipes are too high for me plus this is perfoming very well so far
with an increase in torque and some top speed .
It will look better after I paint it .

I know the feeling... been there with chewing gum on the float,
mower exhaust on intake, useless model airplane jet stuck
permanently on the side of my carb... god knows what else .laugh..
Seriously though, this a little bizarre even for me. However
there is hope! Since you're getting better performance, why not
just get rid of the stock exhaust, and try that thingy on it's own?

so basically you welded a bigger restrictor onto an already overweight, muffler.
I somehow doubt adding more negatives to your exhaust system will add up to any postives. It fun to fabricate though.

I'm curious, did you try running the scooter with just the hole
on the side of the stock muffler? How did it sound and run?
memturbo

where I placed the hole was the key .
At that point the pipe from the exhaust goes into the stock muffler and you can see
the pipe from the hole .
The original exhaust now acts as a baffle and feeds the extention then out .
With just the hole in the side you can see the exhaust pipe and its like running
a straight pipe . Very loud .
the result is a non restricted exhaust.
The parts I used came from a 125 2 stroke yamaha 3-wheeler
So all the parts are at least Yamaha

On a side note I have gained 3mph on top speed 50mph
and it gets to 35mph faster.
I can now run without bogging with No filter at all.
I would say these are positive attributes not negative.
I will know more when my 70cc kit and variator arrives.

Are you getting the 50 number from the speedo?
If so that's normally very optimistic. I have 100/80 front
tire, so speedo should read less than actual speed. However,
it's still reading about 10% over the actual speed. My
guess is you can't be going any faster than 43-44. Which
would still be pretty good if that's all of your mods.

I still think a performance exhaust is always worth saving up for instead, but to each his own.

Exactly...if you bought a performance exhaust..you would probably see alot more power..2 stroke pipes are really particular in how they are built...you cant just weld stuff on and expect it to work..the gain you saw is from freeing up some of the restriction..but all that is going to go right out the window when you get your 70cc kit...you will need a new pipe. And if you do decide to get one;get one thats made for a 70cc kit not a 50.You will hate yourself if you dont cause the 50 pipe just wont cut it.

Well everyone has to learn somewhere. 2 stroke motors act nothing like a 4 stroke. Anything you know about car exhaust can not even be applied even remotely to a 2 stroke. Straight pipe is the absolute worst kind of setup on a 2 stroke (pretty much same as running no pipe) . You are just blowing the unburnt gas right out the pipe.
2 strokes need expansion chamber pipes. Any variation on the stock pipe is just a muffler. Do a search on Leo Vince pipes. They are just glorified mufflers as well.
www.howstuffworks.com is a good site to understand why free flow and straight pipes are not for 2 strokes.

Congrats on trying something different! Make sure you keep a close eye on your plug by doing chops. I'd be a bit nervous running without a filter.

Well the way I see it the stock exhaust is now acting like a expansion chamber
But everyone is correct I will get a new aftermarket exhaust not only for the increased
perfomance but I think they look cool.
I like modifiing stuff and I had the time so thats what I did .
I have replaced the tires to a 3.00 10 so I know the speed is off
but Im still getting 3mph faster than what I was getting before .
Any one have a good used exhaust system for sale ?

nope, it isn't!!! shapes, and size of the "cones" are VERY critical in the design of expansion chamber pipes ,.,.
THIS (http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question636.htm) should clear things up a bit. or THIS ONE (http://www.maxxtraxxusa.com/Tuned_Pipes_3608.cfm)

Well today I installed my 70cc kit and variator
all I can say is WOW with my modified exhaust and only 3/4 throttle
I hit 50mph against the wind and It gets to 45mph faster than it used to get to 30mph
I put in 3-7g and 3 6g rollers and added a 1500rpm clutch springs
I dont see how an aftermarket exhaust could do much better than this setup.
"Remember I weigh in at 230lbs ."
Before you say it I had my brother from the highway patrol clock me and my speedo
Is right on the money.
I havent pushed it yet because its all new and I wanna break it in properly .

Interesting.. but I hate to say, I'd be willing to bet a box
of KFC potato wedges that your speedo is actually off by
at least 8-10 percent.
However, does sound like it's running great either way.
I think the weights would be a bit heavy if you were using
a real pipe, which makes me think that the Airsal can actually
pull well at lower rpm. Probably wouldn't be that way with an
expansion chamber pipe, you'd get more power, but at higher
rpm.
As strange as your pipe mod is, it's the first time I've read
about a "good" mod made to it. I say good tentatively, because
personally I wouldn't care for it as a final product :). You did
prove that it's possible to get better performance out of it though,
which was generally thought not possible.

thanks OldGuy,
i've had it for a while.
if you look close you see arrows going back to the motor.
what is really happening is that you are supper charging
your motor as the sonic pressuer pushes the "extra" gas vaper
back into the cylinder.
thats why they are called tuned pipes its
sonic pressuer at work

Ok, I'll byte, how does it work...
Run rich.. gas ignites in first muffler, gasses cool off in second
muffler :) creating a lower pressure which sucks more rich
mixture into first muffler? That explains perfectly his power
gains .. LOL
BTW Welcome! No offence meant, just having fun with
the idea.
