This is a question for the sysop of this forum...

I've been using Web TV for all of my activities here, but would like to also be able to use my PC. That's with a different ISP tho, and when I log on your forum won't recognize me. Is there a way I can keep my Aviatrixie nick while I'm on my PC? Web TV is fine but I can't up load with it and I was thinking of doing a profile and uploading a pic.

TIA,

Erika

Wow, SysOp, now there's a term from back in the day!?

With the PC, when you log on, you click on for the computer to remember you, and that saves the cookie on your PC. But now believe when I log on from the notebook through my wireless modem, that if I try to hit the site on later at home from the PC, I have relog on. I believe that the cookies reset after you log on to the forums from a different IP. Since you use two different ISP's, you have two different IP's, but Provo only remembers one IP at as time, and I think this ties in to the cookies. It doesn't make sense, but the only time I ever have to log back on to Provo from my home PC is after I'd had logged on to Provo earlier from the wireless notebook which leads me to think the cokkie and IP are related in with the log on setup.

when I log into the forum via my home computer (peoplepc dial up)... I don't have to sign in unless I sign out...

With not "signing out" but not being on the forum... I can get on at work and don't have to log in either...

Both computers have a cookie stored on them that allows me to not have to log in to view as Me...

So... unless there is something funny with web TV... I didn't know those were still in use!

and SysOp... Wow... that's from way back before the Internet existed... When BBS's were the thing!~~~ WOW~~~

interesting, I log on from 3 different cpu's all with different ISP's and never had any probs at all. Provo, and the cpu's all remember me always:confused:

Mine won't, which lead me to believe that logging on binds ya to the IP. My two desktops nor my laptop stay logged on, if I use a different ISP. But I think the key here for Erika is that she's got a Web TV factored in to this equation.

Yes... I'm on Web TV now... cept it's called MSN TV. Bill Gates bought Web TV back around 2000 or 2001. I've used Web TV since 99. Bought it for my commuter pad in Pittsburgh and came to love it. Of couse the web was a lot simpler in 99. Now my old box is pretty lame compared to a PC... still uses IE 4.0. They just released a new box with IE6.0 and a fast Celeron... maybe I'll pick one up.

And yes, I've been online since the early 80's. Used a TI-99 back then.

Vic 20 and a cradle modem here. First new (REAL) computer TRS-80. First computer, Altair, then an Apple when we had to make the case out of wood from the enclosed template.

LOL My fist modem was a 300 baud acoustic modem... paid $35 for it used at a user group meeting as I recall... stepped up to a 1200 baud... paid $200... then a 2400 baud... paid $150... I guess you can probably buy a 56k for $19.99 now... it's all gotten so cheap.

my dad used to be into the TI-99 and did the whole TI group gatherings and stuff...

Oh wow... we also had a thread on the old school computers... Actually think it's in the forever discussion thread...

I had a Commodore 64 in the mid 80's with a separate floppy drive and a 300 baud modem. My ISP was Compuserve! I could actually log on to the Vax mainframe at work with it. The good ole days

Susan,

My ISP in the 80s was Compuserve too. LOL Was there any other ISP in those days? I remember paying $5.99 for 300 baud... made $12.99/hr for 1200/2400 sound cheap! Still, it wasn't uncommon for us to have $300... even $400 dollar bills from Compuserve. Cheap internet is a blessing! :)

I was the techie in my family with that C 64 back then (even my brothers didn't have computers at home) My daughter, who was then in elementary school, tried to learn programming, wrote her school papers & played games on it. Today she is a computer tech at Sun Microsystems.;)

Yup I remember those ridiculous bills from Compuserve, it took so long to log on and even send emails--wasted so much time doing the simplest things.

Susan,
those were fun and glorious days. I used to be VP of the Pittsburgh Users Group. Silly, I know... but it was soooooo much fun being involved with computers in those days. I'm just glad I got to be a part of it!

I like how Elise says the same thing from her PC and her anime board.
