Ok, as you guys know i havent posted in a while, sadily this is because my beloved MBK ovetto got stoln. I just had an open filter fitted and the paintjob done, bringing the total cost of mods to around £800 lots of time and effort, good news is i have got it back, damage seemed to be minimal, just a broken ignition barrel. I changed this and all of the lights etc worked and no spark...

So i set about with an oscillascope and multimeter trying to find the problem everything chcked out except the pulse wasnt leaving the CDI after entering the CDI from the stater plate. So i changed the CDI, still no spark, so i tried another brand new CDI nd still no spark, changed the ht leads, plug, coil, and the stater plate nd STILL NO SPARK. Im desperately frustrated and i do not know what else to do, including the mods, buying the bike, insurance, recovery and attemptin to fix the bike i am touching £3000 and its getting stupid for a moped, at 16 years old with a part time job... i cannot keep this up but it is my only investment and i need it for transport to college etc!!

please please if you know of another similar case and inform me what they did to sort it etc i dont have a clue what else to do.

Thanks for your time i would really appreciate some help!

I don't know anything about this model but from other small engines:

Replace the spark plug anyway.
Hold spark plug touching engine and check for spark.
If the still not spark, remove the cap and try to see if there is any spark coming from the wire. If so, replace the plug cap. Then see if it works.

If it doesn't work, are you sure that the current getting to the coil is good? Since you seem to have ruled out the coil being bad (since you have a brand new one one) I'd look elsewhere, namely the spark plug, cap or something else. I hope you don't already know/have done this as I'd like it to be something this simple. Good luck though.

Stupid question, but did you find power into the CDI with the voltmeter?

Even with no power to CDI you could still get a pulse out of the
pickup, but it's just the rotor magnet passing over the pickup coil.

being a theft recovery, have you checked the ignitions and kill switches? How did the thiefs get it started? Work backwards... ;wink)
