I would worry about checking tire pressure more often than oil...
Seems the stock tires like to leak a bit....

I tend to check the oil more than the air.

speaking of air...
something like 85% of US poeple don't check tire pressure and that is the single most gas saving thing that costs nothing to do...

Is it better to keep the pressure at the high end of the range on a scooter? that would give better gas mileage. when would you want to keep the pressure lower?

No... you want the recommended amount....
To little you get squishy tires... which can be hazardous... and loose MPG's...
If you are over... then the tires become to bouncy and cause a hazard that way... Plus your tires will wear faster...
I think... not sure... as I have never check mine... but I think it's supposed to be 25psi...
Mark is that right?

The Vino manual says 21 front 25 rear (so does the little sticker).
Anyone know why you'd want more pressure in the back?

I've been meaning to get a decent air pump for the home, so I tend to ride to the gas station to put air in, but because the tires are already toasted up after t he three mile trip, my TP tends to read lower than it really is so I have to compensate. But when the tires are good and warm, I do tend to over air the tires by 2 or 3 psi because a. I expect my TP to drop with time, so I buy a little more time in case I don't get to check them. b. I do not take the TP reading off of either my analog or cheap digi-TP gauge at face value, and would rather have the TP being too high than too low. I hate low TP, simple cause I hate the squishy ride.

ive noticed that diffrent tires than stock ,bigger tires usually require different air pressure.

Just wanted to say.. I just upgraded to a performance type tire...
They require 25 front and rear for the Zuma... (I know this is under the vino thread)... the stock tires are the same way 25 front and rear... on the ZUMA's

I check my tire pressure weekly. I put about 30 lbs. in each. It goes faster on smooth roads like that due to less friction.

yeah more pressure=more speed but also more wear ,and more bouncy when hitting bumps

They require 25 front and rear for the Zuma... (I know this is under the vino thread)... the stock tires are the same way 25 front and rear... on the ZUMA's
my owners manual, stickers on the bike, and tires all say 29 psi front and back for my zuma. they have 30 psi (came that way from the dealer)in them now so should i put them at 29 or 25 psi? im confused, one person say 25 and the other say 29 psi, is 4 psi going to make that much of a difference?

Start with what the tire says..... Then go up or down 1psi at a time till you like the ride. ;)

the stock tire is a CHEAP 2 ply tire... not rated for much abuse! So... if you have one that is rated at MAX PSI of 25... and you put 30 in it... then it a large bump it is possible to make the tire explode!
That's why I went with a performance style tire... and 4 ply!
There is a MAX PSI printed on the sidewall of the tire... that is the MAX safely allowed in the tire! Which on the 04 zuma's was 25psi

The stock tires are rated for lower speeds also more like 40mph instead of 55 to 60.

ok i just went out and relooked and the tires say 25psi. so why in the hell would yamaha put in the owners manual and the safty stickers on the bike that they should be 29psi? and i didnt put 30 psi the dealer did!

I seem to recall back with the Firestone/Explorer problem was that Ford had a different recommendation that Firestone did, which caused a lot of the issues. People were using the TP listed on the tire rather than Ford's (Which was too low to begin with, the NTSB found both TP's to be wrong!) But typically the NTSB, and the NTHSA suggest always going by the vehicle's manufacturer's recommendation and not the tire maker's if you were to choose to believe either of them!
