Hello All:
Has anyone replaced their headlight bulbs with anything other then the OEM kind? I have seen replacement bulbs "LUKS by Lighting Research" which are desribed as follows:

"The LUKS Metal White series of halogen bulbs utilize ground breaking technology that allows higher light output in standard electrical environment. This series of halogen bulbs are of High Color Temperature 4000K, and are filled with Xenon gas. The mixture of Xenon and Halogen gas in the high color temperature environment produces a very bright white light beam with a blue background (Xenon Blue) similar to the HID lighting. The ultimate result is a bright white light beam that is noticeably sharper and brighter than other light sources."

Are they legit and/or make a discernable difference?
Thanks
Ham

I don't know how they'll perform on a scoot, but I've seen bulbs like this installed on trucks. The headlights were twice as bright and went out twice as far, but again, I don't know about on a scoot. I'm not even sure they'll fit or work, since the Vino runs its light on AC power.

This is getting into an area I'm new to.

I just ordered a pair of those, I've heard that those are of the highest wattage for our battery (35 watts per Jered). I have yet to try to fit those in a TNT aftermarket headlight assembly...I think they need a reflector. Hopefully with the double headlight mod (double high/low), they are gonna be awesome !!!

I have a pair of Xenons in my Zuma...They are somewhat brighter... I can't remember, but I think they are 55w... It says in my sig, just below my post....

The headlight does not operate off of the battery. It has its own power source, which happens to be AC power.

Fleurette, will you give us a report once you have them installed? I think the factory lights are just a bit dinky! Thanks

Yea, I don't find the factory low beam to be "not bright" but it is angled down too far. It would be good for riding a trail at night though, if that's what you wanted to do.

I think the high beams are perfect for city commuting.

I was running on my high beam for a while after a rediculously stupid wreck. After replacing the headlight bulb w/ an OEM and adjusting the beam I find the low beam great and the high beam to be somewhat useless.

So do those bulbs mentioned at the beginning of this thread work with AC power?

I just received my LUKS 35w/35w bulbs. I will try installing them in a TNT headlight assembly (uses projector-type bulbs), the problem is that I think that those bulb need to be installed in a projector. Those bulb send the light to the side of the bulb, who then is redirected by the projector to the front. Am I right ?

absolutly, light bulbs don't know the difference between ac/dc

N/M. I went to Advance Auto and asked for an H4 Xenon type bulb. Picked one up for $22. I'll take a pic when it gets dark.

Hmm... Vacation coming up next week. Did you get just one bulb or two? Reading the thread it's unclear to me if there are two bulbs or just one in the Vino 125.

Got it. Grabbed it at Autozone for around $22 after tax. Took about 10 minutes to put in - why oh why must Yamaha use two different screwdriver heads for the same cover? Just went down and up the parking garage and looks much brighter than stock. We'll see later when (if) I go out and grab dinner or tomorrow morning on my way to work.

Incidentally, looks like there will be enough room for that air horn I want to put in too!

Well, took the scooter out to grab dinner, lights are a definite improvement. I'll give it a more complete work through tomorrow morning on the way to work when there isn't as much traffic.

I'm interested in a tougher sounding horn.

I want the seas to part when I hit the horn button. I want windows to break... :)

I wonder why nobody's using LEDs? I wanted to restore an old Magnalite and found a forum about flashlights called candlepowerforums.com I ended up buying this ridiculously powerful Task Force flashlite that can light up trees 150 feet away.

More is not always better. Motorists blinded by your lights might not be a good thing.

I have a white 5 LED cluster that I plan on installing to the underside of my scoot. People will see me better and it won't blind anyone.

These high power LED's (flat yellowish panel)

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQEzw1CVi0a6kXooe0z7E07AAF9OzQ8A pL4XDae8roLSfrm8L1hHQ

are not to be confused with the regular LED (with the clear/colored epoxy covering).

The latter will not do anything for lighting up the road. It'll look cool when you're staring straight at the bulb, but won't do anything in terms of function to light your way. The high power ones you're talking about for your Maglite are super duper bright and could definitely blind someone if not pointed in the right direction.

Most high power LED replacement bulbs have multiple LED's may be a bit blinding b/c it emits light in all directions (high powered SMD LED) in our stock reflective housing not designed for anything brighter than a halogen. I've used something called an HDR bulb (I think it's a made up name by Autolumination).

It's pretty much a halogen but supposedly lights up brighter. Does it really? Uh, sorta. Not a huge difference though. I've taken photos before and there's zero difference. You can tell in person (or maybe it's all in my head), but the photos don't show enough difference worth posting here.
