Well, my i95 finaly broke beyond repair... so I bought the "new" camera phone from Nextel. It takes far better pictures than the old i95 did.

Does anyone have, or know where to get free polyphonic ringers??

Is it the i860 or i850 that is also used on Nextel's consumer line? I bought a set for my folks a few months back.

I am not familiar with the i850..... does it have a built in camera? At any rate, I am tottaly happy with this new Nextel. Its about time Nextel came out with betterphones. I have had Nextel for about 8-9 years now, and have always been Jelouse with my friends phones till now!!

So, nobody here has NEXTEL??

here to really goof you guys up...

I have a nokia that I had to PAY FOR!

one cost me $59 with a 3 year plan and the 2nd one costs me $200 with a 1 year plan... Same phone Nokia 5160's...

And the provider is Alaska Digitel... whats fun is my calls are dropped about 1/2 the time!

I love it! Can't wait to get back to the real US!

The i850 has no camera phone. Everyone here uses Nextel for work, but their service in the Baltimore-Washington DC area, is so spotty, I'd never buy one. I had two different Nextel phones that wouldn't take a signal on the National Mall in downtown Washington DC, or in the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. So I only use Verizon, been with them for years after leaving Cingular. Only thing worse than Nextel around here has been Sprint. Phonewise, I've had a Moto, an Ericson, and three Nokia's. I liekd the Moto, love the Nokia, and hated the Ericson.

That new Moto Razr 3 (http://www.motorola.com/mdirect/hellomoto/experience/v3/flash/default.shtml) is AWESOME- $600 bucks but can find it for $400ish on ebay...

Too rich for my blood- I ruin phones every 3-4 months and they won't insure me any more so I won't spend more than $150ish for a phone these days.

two of my local friends work at nextel, over 2 years now.
one is IT, the other is customer support.
both recomended that i go to verizon or another cell phone provider instead of nextel.
only reason they both use nextel is they get the phones and service for free.

me and my g/f use at&t. had them for a year now with no probs. great signal, i think ive only lost like 2-3 calls because we were having realy bad weather. we use our cells as our home phones and dont ever plan on getting a regular house phone. plus at&t and cingular merged together so we should never have a prob with not having any coverage. ive used nokia the whole time and love thier phones, my g/f had a ericson (pos), a nokia, and a LG (her newest one) which doesnt seem to be to bad.

Malformed, what are the "inside" reasons for not using Nextel?

In my opinion ALL cell service could be better....... Unfortunatly, in construction, Nextel is the best there is.... My company cuts me a monthly check for $75 to go towards my cell bill.... my bill is usually around $100. $25 for unlimited cell usage is not too bad in my book.

well localy, the signal isnt so great where they live.
they have to walk outside to the street to get signal.
(with the blackberry phones atleast.)

quite a few of the phones are defective from what they say, but thats motorola's fault... but motorola blames nextel.
the i730 was what was recomended to me by my friends... or that black/yellow construction one, or the silver/metal cased one like the i730 (but it scratches very easly)... i cant remember the models for either of them.
overall, the GPS doesnt seem to work the way it should.
the blame for that gets shifted between someone else and nextel also.

if i got the nextel partner deal i would get by going through my friends, id still have to pay for the phone, and the monthly service is expensive, more expensive than it would be to just go with verizon or something.

nextel just is just more of a wireless provider for companys, corperations, etc.
they get better deals on service and phones.
for the standard consumer like my, nextel isnt a good choice.
they cater more to the companys, not your average joe.

ofcourse, this was all just idle conversation between my friends and i.
ive never actualy heard of anyone but them having problems with nextel.
and seeing as customers usualy only call support when they have PROBLEMS... thats pretty much all my friends hear about.
so take it for what its worth.

the one thing i know is that they are too expensive, the service isnt allways the best, and quite a few of the motorola phones seem to have ongoing problems, either software or hardware.

since gps is what i want in a phone, and the i730 is the phone i wanted...
i have elected to NOT get a phone at all because i cant find another affordable company that offers GPS enabled phones, the i730 in particular. :P

i might have to call my friend up again and see if anything has changed since the last time we talked about nextel.
i may just revisit the idea now that the i730's are a bit cheaper.

Well, now that Nextel and Spint are merging, maybe things will change? Anyone know who's towers will be used in the merger? Both?

Oh Lordie... Sprint is merging? I have Sprint... hope it doesn't cause a rate increase. With 3 phones, all the messaging stuff the kids need, and all of the taxes and fees Spring passes on to the users ($115/mo... yeah right) my monthly bill runs $200. That's more than my heat!

In all fairness to Sprint, at least the bill never goes over. With 2500 shared anytime minutes and a reasonably tight reign on the kids (not easy with a 19 y/o daughter in college) it seems to be a good package. I remember $500 cell bills just a few years ago!

now that the merge is underway, ut seems like my signal/service is getting WORSE......what the heck?

Anyone have any inside info?

Im sporting a razr. i just got it about 2 weeks ago. i love the phone. im a nerd and have already modded it a bit. i used to sell for cingular and tmobile so i got pretty big into the cell phone scene. i usually have a new phone ever couple months or so. ok so an answer to your question on the free ringtones... do you have wap access? im not to familiar with nextel but if you do, go to www.polyphonicringtonez.com/wap

lennox the merge hasnt actually happened yet. it actually just got approved by th fcc today for the go ahead. but sprint needs to clear up a few law suits before they will let them do anything as far as merging.

and from what i hear, they are actually going to be offering both networks for a while. (iden and CDMA) but i guess we will see. so they will probably keep using both companys towers. they will still be sold as two differnt products. except under the Sprint logo it will say "together with nextel". hopefully this answers some of your questions with the whole merge.

On the posotive note, if your still looking for free ringtones, buy yourself a data cable off of ebay for 0.01 plus 5 shipping and run a google search for Motorola Mobile Phone Tools and download that. Unlimited ringtones using your own mp3's already on your comp ;-)

does your computer recognize it as a motorola i860, and have you installed the driver. Then just hook it up and turn on mobile phone tools.

Lennox

I am ALOT better with scooters than computers :D It did not come with a driver. I downloaded a program that was supposed to be able to take the video clips off the phone, and I cannot even get that to work ;no

Any step-by-step instructions would be great! :nerd:

Step by stop instruction, aah if only i had the time (not trying to sound rude). Go on Howardforums.com and click on the Motorola section, you should find your answer there if you register and search the forum, or if you don't find it, just post and i'm sure someone will help you out.

go to demonoid.com and search for mobile phone tools. it uses bittorrent sharing. that is the best way to get it.

I work for Qwest ie sprint in their Wireless Customer care... so we have all the same stuff as sprint. The 8300 is great phone. I am getting my blackberry 7100t today!!!! I think t-mobile is better than anyone right now. They are cheaper than anyone including my employer with my discount. Can't wait to get off work to go get my new phone!

and yes the Nokia 6225 is not even worth the plastic they made it out of.

Love the blackberry's, never found a need for one myself considering my age. I agree the 8300 is a great phone, but it has its flaws. It fell out of my pocket a few days ago while doing a wheelie on the scooter, it now turns off everytime it is shut hard and sometimes wont turn back on unless plugged into the charger(I guess it needs the extra boost). I'm taking it into sprint ASAP to claim it under my insurance coverage.
