View Full Version : Vino Oil Light

I was perusing the owners manual for my "new" Vino and read that if the oil light comes on I should immediately shut off the engine and add oil. I checked my Vino and could find no sign of an oil level indicator on the resevoir. Is that light truly an out of oil light? It would make more sense to me if it was an oil quantity low light. (as in... It's nice that the Vino has a fuel gauge, but my motorcycle doesn't... so if I run out of gas I just reach down and flip the fuel petcock to reserve... bingo... up to 80 miles left to refuel. It would just make more sense if the light was an "on reserve oil now" light..)

Anyway... I guess I'd better start adding oil regularly, or someday that light will come on and I'm going to wind up pushing my Vino.

Thanks for any input. :)

There should be, according to Yamaha:

"Easy-to-read indicator light located on instrument panel alerts rider when oil level gets low."

when the light blinks when cornering, its time to add oil.......

I typically check the oil reserve every other fuel up.

my girlfriend and i have always just added oil as soon as possible after the light goes on, this could be an hour or a couple days.. it's never been a problem. i don't think you have to freak out and shut it off as soon as the light comes on, just fill it up as soon as you get the chance... best to just carry a quart under the seat.

A oil reservoir full every 1000-1500 miles was posted on here some place before I think..

you know... when I got my scooter, I added my stage kits... so I drained teh stock oil and went to the synthetic oil... I have gone through 1 quart of oil in about 800 miles...

However I was told my oil line wasn't installed correctly... so... I think that might actually be to little oil... King Vino says to check it every other fill up... if that's the case... then my scooter was seriously lacking the oil supply... I have a new cylinder on the way and also am now premixing... so I'm all good...

Lennox and I decided on 40:1 mixture of oil/gas...

my dealer told me to check the oil resevoir about every 4th fill up-seems like I need to add some oil around every 400 miles or so.

Thanks for the input everyone. It sounds like you all feel it's safe to keep riding if the light comes on, but plan on refilling the oil resevoir at soonest convenience. The scooter had a full fuel tank when I bought it, but checked the oil today. It was 3/4 full, but I topped it off anyway. I added Yamalube synthetic, which is green, but the oil that was in the tank already was brown. I suspect it was fossil. I do hope it's ok to mix the two types of oil.

Thanks again for your help. :)

don't mix synthetic and dino oil...

They don't mix well and can GUM up the oil lines, and pump...

I recommend draining the oil tank then refilling with synthetic oil...

for both me and my gf's vinos, it seems just around every 700 miles... i don't know about this every other, or even every fourth fillup nonsense.. .unless you're actually getting the 100 miles to the gallon you're supposed to be getting... i get around 60.

funny... when I was in Jr. High and just discovering the joys of motorcycling there was an older man who used to ride this silly track he built in his back yard... riding a Harley Davison. Remember... this was the mid 60s. Anyway.... it was a2 stroke, and he used to pop the fuel cap and wave it around and brag how he never added oil.

I just check the oil before every ride.Only takes a minute. If it's down more than an inch just top it off. No big deal.
On the tires, mine leak five pounds a week!Don't know why,but it never fails, both down the same every time. ON the LS49 it's front:25-rear:30 lbs.

I carry a 3.2 oz. bottle of two-stroke oil under my seat... silly or what?
