I just thought this was interesting. Was going to post this in the website section but I'd rather open this up for discussion. I was thumbing over the stats (before Elise hijacked my PC) and thought it was interesting to note our user base is 60% male to 40% female, that's a near even split, but when you think about it 70% of scooter sales go to women. Yet interesting to note that 80% of our posts and active user base is male. In other words, ladies y'all need to post more.

I live in a university town & there seems to be a few more men riding scooters than women-maybe 60% male, 40% female just from what I have observed.
Women seem to ride the retro syle scooters Vino's & their clones and the Honda Metropolitan.
There are some smaller shops that sell the modern styles & I see more men on those--also see more Ruckuses(?) than Zumas and Metros than Vinos. I think it's because the Honda dealer has a better inventory of scooters than the Yamaha dealer.

I'm going to see if Matt will give me his sales figures for scooter sales last year at the delaership for Yammy and Kymco, and I expect to see more men for last year (03) but keep in mind we're on the tail end of a scooter craze that is dying down now for the new buzz, pocket bikes. But new scooter sales have almsot always been traditionally gone to females, while vintage/restoration scooters go to males, the female to male ration for scooters has always been balanced more toward women. I'd expect that the 04 figures again would reflect this.

Different thread, NEW MEMBER (http://www.provoscooter.com/vbull/showthread.php?t=833) Jered. I'm new here was another thread, and don't forget foozball_monkey is a woman, just off the top of my head. And look at the profiles of some of our more active members, there's a lot more women on here than you might think. My numbers came off a search in the admin-mod panel under stats. Also, I did say in my initial post that: Yet interesting to note that 80% of our posts and active user base is male.

BTW Jered- that's my scoot in the phoot contest. Thanks for the compliment:).
King-I'd be interested to hear about those sales figures. I wonder how sales of Yamah Vino compare to Honda Metropolitan over the USA.
It's hard for me to tell for my college town--alot depends on the dealer network I suppose. Wheras the Yammy dealer will carry 1 Vino , 1 Zuma & 1 Vino 125 in stock & won't let you test ride, the Honda dealer has lots of metros & rucki (plural of Ruckus?) in stock as well as models to test ride.

i agree, nothing really nice about them. they stopped making the car i liked back in 1999, witch is the 1999 nismo skyline GT-R AWD with 5 speed trans
turbo charged, that car puts out 315 stock, not the fast but i was able to drive one and it handled the road like a four-hundred-thousand doller car.

well... all the women are out riding thier scooters :D
instead of sitting in front of their computers talking about them :)
seriously, though
I'm female and am part of a local scooter group
the women who are in the group seem to be fine with their scooters with just the destriction or 'gasp' stock.
I know, I know, its horrible but true.
I think most women ride to ride but not necessarily for speed.
Therefore, modifications aren't necessary, hence not that much chatter on the boards. Mind you, there are those few, like me who need to go faster :D

When we had a group ride a little while ago, there were a few women. One on a Stella, one on a Bajaj, one on a TNG Milano (I think), and at least one more on a classic Vespa. The roads weren't possible for most 50cc scoots though so there weren't any Vinos or Metropolitans.
I see girls on Metropolitans and a TON of Kymcos around town though.

As Go Go Go said, I am happy just to ride. My scooter is de-restricted, but I am not into more speed modifications so won't be following those threads or posting there. I am however into "accessorizing" and personalizing my scooter and making it as practical and comfortable to ride as possible as well as looking cool--gotta get those Japanese style lights soon. :)
So any talk about customizing I will be interested in

That's how I am Suz. I had a stage 1 that I sold to a kid in the FEZ. I focused on ascetics with my scooter. When I need speed, I'll buy another crotch rocket, maybe a Yammy R1 or R6 depending on what my account looks like while Elise is away. Though the thought of a Venture Star is looking rather appealing to me in my old age, lol.

Like hell I said that!? I don't her with a toaster yet alone a scooter! She spends more time riding on the sidewalk than the road, and tries to say it's ok to ride on them there in Singapore.
