Hi everyone... I just bought a 2001 Vino today and made an appointment with the Yamaha dealer's mech to derestrict it before I left to close the deal. Long story made short... took it for a ride and it hit 42 mph on the flat. I have to assume either it's already derestricted or the speedo is incredibly optimistic. Steve, the Mech, said it's most likely derestricted, so we cancelled our appointment tomorrow. Anyway... I think I'd like to persue hopping it up some more anyway. I've always loved getting the most frome the least. I've owned several motorcycles in my many years, but none over 350cc... and I got my 71 R5 up to 105. Anyway... I have a new toy... and I'm glad to be a part of your forum. :)

sincerely,

Erika

Welcome to the board, to answer your question your Vino has already been derestricted.

Hi King Vino,
Yeah... in fact I think I may have hit 50 mph... but it was on a sweeping down-hill. Damn... it's so hard to know what the truth is sometimes. I've been riding a Honda CM=185T Twinstar when I'm not driving a Boeing 737-400... I'd rather be driving the Honda

37-42 or so is about the most you'll get out of derestricted. I tend to run about 38 most of the time wide open, but if I'm on flat ground and the weather is nice the Vino will hit 40-42. Tu-stroke motors are temperamental so they perform differently each day on the same road and conditions. It's weird because when I use to ride crotch rockets a decade ago, I was use to my CBR1000 (Honda Hurricane) behaving the same every day but the Vino is so temperamental it's still something I'm not use too. If you're up for more speed, then you may want to look in to staging your Vino. I'm sure you'll get 10000000 replies to any question you have about staging. (some of which will appear after I post this post!)

Good morning everyone. King Vino... yes, I'm female. The avatar is adorable... I think I'll keep it, thank you. Jered, I'm a a 3rd generation American of German decent on my father's side. His name is Franz. :) I'm located in Pittsburgh, PA and we're into a week of nice weather here with temps near 60 all week, but the nights are cold now. I will be on my scooter this afternoon. :) (I'm on vacation this week!)

There is a review of the 2001 Vino over on Motorcycle Online, a very good review that praised the Vino. There is also an article on derestricting the Vino, which is where I leaned about derestricting, and was a major factor in my deciding to buy the Vino in the first place. Let's face it... 29 mph isn't very practical, but derestricted I can pretty much keep up with traffic in town and on backroads. One concern I do have is a comment in the derestriction article from an ASE certified master mechanic who performed the derestriction on his Vino and said removing the washer from the CVT has resulted in bearing noise from the transmission bearings in the final drive, a possible result of being run at top speed 40+ for some extended time. You can read it over in Motorcycle Online if you like. Just look in the comments section at the end of the derestriction article. I do hope it was a unique problem and not one that I will have to worry about, as I do think I will be running the little scoot flat out a lot.

That said, I do think I will be doing the stage one upgrade soon. I'd like to be able to do 55 mph eventually. That would make the Vino true transportation. I think I may be riding my motorcycle a lot less! :)

Wow... what a nice group of people!

Zuma88... thanks, I'm sure my Vino will be getting faster down the road!

Susan... nice to meet you. Yes, Gals on 2 wheels rule! What part of Colorado are you in? I have family in Colorado Springs. It's really beautiful there!

Lennox... Hi there. :) I'm in Coraopolis, on the Ohio River near the airport. Actually, I just moved back to Pittsburgh after many years of living in Florida, but I did grow up here in the South Hills.

Davey... LOL Like I told Susan, Gals on 2 wheels rule!

Well... I just got back from a nice ride on my Vino. Stopped at the bike shop and ordered a basket and windshield for my scooter. Stopped off and had dinner, then rode thru the countryside on the way home. I'm determined to get as much riding as I can in before winter settles upon us for good. On my ride last night everywhere I went people were coming up to me and asking about the Vino. I've always met people who were impressed at a woman on a motorcycle, but now the Scooter is getting all the attention! LOL Well... that's not a bad thing!

I am in northern Colorado--Fort Collins to be exact-home of Colorado State University. More and more folks are getting scooters here from students to older folks.
I used to live in Maryland (the DC area) before I moved here and grew up on the east coast.
Wow! you sure got a great deal on your scooter -mine is a 2003 has close to 1000 miles on it.
Gals on scooters RULE.
Let me know how you like your windshield & what difference you notice when riding with it.

***REMOVED*** , talk about a hello thread going nuts... are you guys all desperate for any female input around here or what? my girlfriend also drives a vino, but i guess isn't in to scooters nearly as much as i've become into them, i think i'll just be her mechanic... sigh, oh well.

yeah anyway, hi, i'm devon... nice to meet you... as far as that goes online...

speaking of, what's the deal with the vino windshield? does that actually do much? it looks pretty small.
