I've been reading that flat top pistons are better
power-wise, and was wondering why some manufacturers
are sticking to domed pistons. Must be some advantage,
since I would think flat pistons would be easier to make?.

imo domed are stronger due to the curve, ie; tube is stronger than solid rod.

Makes sense that an arch would take more load/abuse.

an domed has variable squish. easier on the crankshaft

...and you would think that a dome shape would be better
at directing the mixture from the compressing squish band,
up into the center of the head.
