Hi all. I have a 1990 yamaha razz and was just wondering what performance parts will work with it. I understand you use pre '02 Zuma parts. Will all these zuma parts fit on or only some?

Great to see another Kiwi on the forums!

Many pre '02 Zuma parts will work on the Razz, but not all. Obviously nothing to do with transmission (eg. clutch, rollers, variator etc.) will fit, as this is completely different in the Razz. Razz has a single speed chain drive system rather than the more common (and more practical!) variator and belt system.

Zuma cylinder and head will fit great, although you will have a few clearance problems with the spark plug against the frame at the top - lengthen the rear suspension by 5cm and this will be solved. You will need to get a Zuma exhaust and intake as well if you swap the cylinder, as the Razz parts don't fit.

Zuma pipes will fit ok with minor adjustments - you'll need to cut the pipe close to the exhaust bracket end and get it re-welded at a different angle so the pipe will clear the frame, fan and engine pivot when it's on. Most car exhaust places will weld this free for you - I just took it to the local Midas. Making a custom bracket to support the pipe is a hassle too, but it is possible - just make it good and strong first time round and avoid breaking things like I did...

Once you have a new cylinder, you will need to get a new manifold, reed box and air filter (recommend getting a bigger carb too if you're going 70cc) as none of the old Razz parts will fit with the new cylinder. Air box will fit at a stretch, but you can't fit the panels back on over the top.

I also got stiffer clutch springs (Zuma ones work ok - you only use 2 rather than 3 though) to get better acceleration - well worth it. See my other listing on how to prevent the clutch rattling after you do this.

Unfortunately the Zuma cdi doesn't work - haven't found one yet that does, so you're stuck with stock (and ~65k top speed). I assume the Zuma ignition etc. will work, but haven't tried this myself.

Any more questions, please feel free to send a PM or ask in the forum - more than happy to share my experience!

before you start getting those razz parts, see if you can buy a used prebug zuma engine and do a swap so you can have a better tranny on your bike.

so what exactly do you need to get for the engine/trans swap?

a engine that is complete with back rim.
