I decided to go ahead and make some venting holes on the tranny case yesterday... Here are the pics of it... Not the prettiest but should help out...

I also don't see a problem with getting much extra debris in there the way it is...

I used a dremmel and a reenforced cutting disk to make the cuts.. So they aren't huge but will allow air in and out...

I know lennox... My bad huh...

I thought the Alaskan Climate kept it cool enough?.........

Great job, I need to do it too......... For the past 2 weeks, I have been riding around with no cover on it........ I do however blow it with my compresor after a ride.

I'm sure it's cool enough now but THANK GOD, I get to leave here in august... no I have no idea where we are going yet...

That case is pretty tough BYW... It took 2 disks and about 45 minutes to do it....

jered those cuts in your cover are way too small. i cut my cover big enough to where you can see the top and bottom of my polini speed clutch bell almost sticking out. with my over range tranny i had to cut plenny metal off of my cover.

where I live, it's dusty and wet all the time... Alaska... So... I decided to go with small cuts as to keep some of the gunk out...

Not gonna make them bigger... no matter what they will allow some air to vent the case...

Might not be a whole lot but for my set up it will help....

Others in areas where there is less issues with gunk and stuff... Maybe bigger is better..

i know nothing about this, but am curious... is this a common thing a lot of people with performance upgrades have done or should do? what exactly does it help cool? (i mean what part needs to be cooled more?) ever since my stock belt disintegrated after installing stage one, i'm terrified of something like that happening again, though i got the kevlar belt, but still... i'm always paranoid of something random exploding, being that i'm driving much faster than the bike was made to go, and am usually doing it for 3-6 mile stretches straight.... so should i consider this? i live in seattle and it's pretty damn cold most of the time anyway, but we have our moments...

don't know if you have ever touched the tranny case when your done riding... It's probably pretty hot...

and if you have ever opened the case after riding, you can't even touch the part inside barehanded without being burned...

Thats what your trying to cool... the internal tranny parts...

yeah, i've touched it right after riding, i know it's pretty damn hot, i'm just trying to find out if i should perform a similar operation on it or not... anyone?

You don't need to, probably better off the way you have it. All you have is stage 1, which is not much more than derestriction. Jered on the other hand has a boat load of performance parts, and his set-up can get really hot. It's not really necessary for your vino and where you live.

okay, thanks for the info... though once i'm at say, stage three, do yo think it's something i should do? cause i'll be there soon...

Stage three..... yeah probably. The reason I'm a lil hesitant is because of your climate. Seattle has nice coastal weather, and I dunno if you wanna risk having crap find it's way into your tranny.
