stock rollers are 4 grams... so the 4.5 gram rollers i got should be fine.

i realy dont like how loose and noisey the variator is, but as long as it works ok i will use it.

i will call the shop in the morning and have the good mechanic just do the clutch springs and torque spring.
hopefully that will produce the results im after.

thanks guys.

oh. i have a new finned variator pully, i will have him drill it to the right size and install it tomarow. and take care of the stripped threads while he is at it.
he is also going to pull a new ABS unit off one of the new zips they have there so i dont have to wait for a new one to get ordered.
he isnt charging me labor for any of this.

forgot to add, the airfilter was wet with gas, and i went through a quarter of a tank in about 8 miles.

its running great, and i thought i had the carb adjusted right but now im not so sure.
any ideas where the gas is coming from?

WOW! I have never heard of that happening... I'd think if it was that flooded that it's spilling gas into the air filter that you'd have stalled from the plug being to fowled to spark properly...

I did it 2 or 3 times before I got mine right...

The other thing could be to check and make sure that the carb is all tight... If it was leaking from around the bowl or something but I'd think that wouldn't get into the air filter... just leak gas...

No drip under the scooter after you shut it off?

Good you have a mechanic that isn't charging labor... I wish I had someone that would do that for me... But then again I love to get my hands dirty...

if you are losing that much gas out the gas you need to get a power box
it sucks in all the extra gas that gets pushed out and sends it back in.

yea, all the mechanic realy finished so far was the piston.
i did the carb and cable myself.

he put the new variator and springs on but it didnt have any accelleration so he took it all back off and put the stock on. (but let the assistant bolt it all back together, which is what caused some of the problems)
im guessing the lack of accelleration and power was because he didnt do the cable shorter like i asked him to.
so the springs and everything should work better now.

my theory is that it may be sucking gas through the vac line?
is that even possible?

I winterized mine yesterday and I sucked on the vacume line... so that the fuel would drain out the fuel line... I can't imagine how it could come out of there as I sucked on it and held it with my tounge for a few minutes and the pressure never changed... stayed stuck to my tounge till I popped it off...

Then again if the fuel shut off is bad... It's highly possible...

well if its not coming from there i dont know where...

maybe i need to turn the fuel/air mixture screw in a turn or two?

its just so frustrating.. nothing is ever "easy" for me.

you know... I am still tuning mine as I just get something right I change something else or the temps change and I'm back tuning it again!

It's kind of frusterating.

But it's still a love of 2 wheels that I love...

Thats what the Fuel Device is called a Vacuum petcock

it's hooked up with 2 or more PORTS one to the tank and one to the CARB and the other to the Fuel Flow!

the mechanic retapped the drive shaft free, replaced the broken finned variator free, installed a new ABS (the black box) on the front, installed the clutch springs and torque spring.
and i believe he adjusted the carb a bit, so hopefully it doesnt suck so much gas and soak the air filter.

my girlfriend went to the shop, grabbed the scooter and drove it the block or so to where she works and left it by the front office doors so no one messes with it. she said it was fast, very nice.
she is driving our car back here, we are going to eat, and then go pick up the scooter after dinner. hopefully it rides as good as me as it does for her. :D

sucess!

i just drove it, seems a little unstable at around 30-35 but it runs great above that.
acceleration for me isnt as nice as i had hoped off the line, but it is fine.
not going to bother changing the rollers since my girlfriend will probably drive it too, and she said it accelerates just fine for her. (i weigh a good 80lbs more than her, im not surprised at all at the difference.)

doesnt have much acceleration starting from a full stop.
it doesnt rev higher and engage the variator like it did before, it starts to go pretty much right away its just not very fast.

cant tell if its bogging down or what, it just doesnt want to go.
could it be the cold weather, or do i need different rollers?

PErsonally I think it sound like you need the next lighter rollers...

The clutch is getting power before it's in the power band...

Just my thoughts...

im using 4.5g rollers right now.
stock were 4g

the only other rollers i have handy are between 5 and 10 grams

im 225lbs or so, usualy ride on flat roads, but there are some hills here and there.
what would you guys recomend?

Malformed

anyone?

its very slow to accelerate, gets to about 10mph and then its a slow struggle to 25-30mph, then it feels like it kicks in and zooms.

I think Jered may be right......... try some lighter rollers.which Variater is this??

technomoto

using yellow rollers from malossi 4.5 grams each (stock were 4grams)
i ordered the entire stage 2 kit from here and picked the rider over 200lbs option.
those are the rollers that came with the kit... but, Jody said he also picked the 200+ option, and he got WHITE rollers... he isnt sure what they weigh though.

im starting to think i got the wrong rollers?

Lennox

strange, my Techno kit came with rollers that need to be fitted into plastic cases. Are yours the same way?

Stop by a pharmacy, they can weigh the rollers for you.........

i allready weighed all my rollers, i have a digital scale.

the yellow mallosi are 4.5g
they are the ones i have installed.

the 3 different weights that came with, the split ones, with the metal inserts.
silver inserts = 5.2g
black inserts = 7.1g
solid brass = 10.6g
all including the plastic covers.

and then there is the rollers that came with the exhaust
are 4.8g

all weights give or take .1g because they dont all weigh out exactly the same.

if i knew i wouldnt be asking for recomendations.

i keep saying, and i just said, the yellow 4.5g rollers are the ones provoscooter sent me, and the ones i currently have installed, they are also the lightest ones i have.

im 225lbs or so, usualy ride on flat roads, but there are some hills here and there.
what would you guys recomend?

didn't you say that you didn't install the clutch springs or the torque spring?

Not sure if you had those installed or not...

If not and you are running 4.5gram rollers... Then you need to install the rest of the kit, the torque and clutch springs...

If you already changed those... might try different clutch springs, adding a shim in the torque spring...

As said before, it's a ballancing act to make them work...

Malformed
11-07-2004, 08:16 PM
yes, the clutch springs and torque spring are all installed.
like i said, thats what i took it to the shop for.

i cant keep tearing this scooter apart to adjust things or change parts out.

it had better accelleration with the technomoto variator & 4.5g rollers, and the stock clutch springs and torque spring.
right now i have no accelleration from a stop.

will the kevlar belt make a difference?
i still need to know what weight the white rollers are that jody got with his stage 2 kit.

XPS1210

I got orange rollers with my kit...

The ones with the pipe were green but they were 15mm not 16mm and were for the stock variator...

I don't have the package or a scale... so Not totally sure what the weights were but I thought they were 4.5grams... might be 4 grams I'll ask erich but it was 4 or 5 months ago... so the products could be different by now...

I don't have the stock clutch... I have a delta clutch installed with the large torque spring and not shims...

My guess is... if you had better take off with the stock springs, then you should change it back to the stock ones and see how it goes now...

It's all trial and error... I can say my tranny case has been opened at least 50 times...
