Hi,
I am the new guy with the 2006 Vino 125. I am interested in hooking up with Pinellas 125ers. I am new to the world of brand-new scooter owning. I had a 1987 Honda Elite 80 back in 98 for about a year...only put gas in it.
So, I need to learn so much from "breaking it in" to doing my first upgrades. If anyone is looking to take a newvi under the wing, point me to some "must reads" or must do's, I will let Santa Claus know you have been nice.

Outside of this website, I have not seen too many web resources for the vino 125.

Thanks!

Hi there, I'm a new vino owner too. Yeah, there is'nt much 125 vino stuff on the web. I just got past the breakin period, I would follow the breakin insructions in the owners manuel to the letter, don't get frustrated by how long it seems to take, I found the best way to get the miles was just to plan on riding 2-3 hours on saterday and sunday, 3 hour rides cause the miles to go by quick!. I would recomend changing your oil after the first 100 miles, also clean the oil strainer and filter, and change again at 400 miles. Then get the service done at 600 miles. You will notice other riders saying that the power increases even after the 600 mile breakin, I agree, I would'nt be to quick to worry about power mods, especialy if can ride in places with 25-45 mile an hour speed limits. Everthing seems pretty tight on these scooters, and could take a 1000--1500 miles to really wear in and lossen up. Be safe and have fun. james

Thanks! Santa will hear about this! Now to my neurosis........I think I have a small rattle upon acceleration...maybe 15-20mph.....I am assuming this: scooters should not sound really quiet like Jetson mobiles, and they are going to make some noise going through acceleration...in this case it might just be a plastic panel vibrating a wee bit and then smoothes out, but I am not sure. None of my friends noticed what i was talking about, so it's probably just my new-owner paranoia...thats why I wished I knew someone who also had a 2006 vino 125, for comparisons.

Also, is this a good useage guidline for the break in period?:
-Don't wrench down on the throttle off the line , ideally 1/3 turn max.
- Don't try to go too fast when cruising...keep lower speeds (say under 35mph?)
- keep less weight on the machine...ie. one rider at a time
-do the above for the first few tanks of gas 200 miles or so?

An FAQ for newbies might be good for the 125 section...you veterans probably get asked this stuff alot....I swear I searched the archive but didn't find what I was after.

thank you

The manual states no PROLONGED throttle above 1/3 for the first 300 miles, then same for 1/2 throttle to 600 miles.

Prolonged becomes the grey area. I know on my scoot I can go above 1/3 for a brief period, get the bike up to 35 to 40, back off to below 1/3 and maintain that speed.

If you got it new I'd putt putt very slowly for the first 50 miles or so. After that, follow the 1/3 and 1/2 rules. I drove my bike to work over 50mph surface streets when it had about 85 miles on it. I drive to work at night though, and through back roads, so I was doing 15-20 most of the time, with the exception of a few unavoidable jaunts on faster more busy streets.

Just change the oil after about 100 miles or so, then at the 600 interval, then enjoy the machine.

My break in period consisted of picking up at the dealership flooring it. Taking a massive hill on the way home hitting 70 going down hill. I didn't change the oil untill 1000 miles. I now actually take care of it and its still just ruling the 101.
