this post has to exist already... but i don't see it... anyway, anyone installed any sort of speakers on their scoot? i'm looking to buy something, like the rumble road system for motorcyles, motorcycletunes.com has cheaper, larger speaker systems for sale, though they're 6 inch speakers as oopsed to the 4 inch ones, and i'm not sure how well they'd fit on the vino's handlebars... it'd be a tight squeeze i'm guessing... i'm also curious about the stock battery and if i should get a new one for something like this, and what i should get...
anyone have any info here???

We had a huge honken thread on the old board but I don't think it had been restarted on the new forums here.

He actually does Lennox so you'd've just lost your shirt in that poker bet. In fact if I recall it was Erich that was with him and helped him install that unit. James had a write up on this on the old board. And tons of pix on the old gallery of how he did it. But I doubt they're still there, Erich has brought up and torn down that old gallery POS so many times over the past year, I lost count!
James, if you get time if you still have the write up and pix, I'd love to move that in to the article section of the board. I seem to remember that the scooter stereo thread on the old board was the largest post reply of any thread we ever had on there. If I recall it was a VW speaker pods you used on the inside of the leg shields on your Vino?

alright, yeah, those speakers are ugly, no offense, but i already tried putting a stereo under my seat with big plastic speakers in the leg shields, it sounded awful, i just needed better speakers, anyway... i was really trying to find out if anyone knew much about rumble road or anything from motorcycletunes.com - i'm gonna order one of those two sets... chrome, pre-amped speakers that mount to the handlebars, would i really need an extra battery for that? can't i just install a better one? i don't know where i'd put an extra battery! ?

Don't quote me on this it's been a long time since I read the old thread, but I thought James had his batts under his seat next to the head unit. As for the speaker pods, keep in mind they are black and match the scooter fairly well in color. Frankly I',m amazed he got them to fit as he did. Maybe y'all can petition Erich to come out with a scooter stereo kit or something. We have a perpetual thread on what products you would like to see Provo carry in the website forum. Once a month, I email Erich a copy of that thread with the poll results.
I myself use a persoanl iRiver MP3 player, and a set of those helmet speakers. Can't for the life of me understand why it is illegal to wear headphone while riding a motorcycle or driving in most states, yet the helmet speakers are legal. I suppose they are designed so you can hear external sound while wearing them!

My speaker system is so loud, the animals think it's an earthquake and they flee the city. I don't drive a "car" anymore - it's an entertainment center with wheels.

OKAY, I have to call the BS flag...
Sorry but there is no way that the zuma scooter charging system can handle the above system!
I have 1 single 10" sub and a 1200 watt amp in my car... when I get it LOUD... Earthquake like! It pulls so much my car battery can die if I let it ilde... Had to charge it a couple of times...
It hits and the headlights go WAY dim...
So... there is no possible way that the scooter charging system can handle the set up you said above...
Besides, where are the pictures of this set up? Come on! Proof, make an @55 out of me... Let's see it!
Please... I'm not trying to be a jerk... but I'd have to see it to believe it...

I recieved a PM,
Zuma88 has this hooked up but it needs to be charge on a trickle charger daily or every other day...
So, it is not running on the scooters charging system.... it's ran off of batteries...
So that way, sure it's possible... but what a pain...

I actually only have the stock battery on mine. The Battery seems to be holding up well but in colder weather I have to kick start it especially in the morning. The speakers aren't ones made by VW but they came with one of my bugs. I agree they look weird but they fit quite well and I can hear it until I hit 40. I'm thinking of putting some tweeters on the handle bars pointed at my head.

i put mine in the glove box and tweeters in the top. subs in the glove box, and 3 speaks in my bucket. along with my amps

Zuma88.... there is not enough room on a scoot for all the stuff you listed, and the batteries? Also, how long can you listen for 2-4 minutes??

okay, zuma, that's awesome, i gotta admit, and i'm jealous.. i'd totally run a system like that if i could... i don't know much about zumas, as i drive a vino, any idea how much storage space a vino has for stuff like that? and where do you put all those speakers, batteries, amps, etc?? could you post some pictures? also, if you could tell me around how much your whole setup cost you that would be much appreciated, and, once again, i gotta ask, does anyone know anything about the chrome speakers you mount to the handle bars? such as Rumble Road or the stuff they sell at motorcycletunes.com ???

Yea I'm always at that mall (work you know). Or its at school. I'm not sure how you could wire a second battery on a Vino that electrical system is weird.

you could mount the under the seat or make a mount and find a place by the stock battery.

if you can send me a picture of the fornt leg sheld and the bucket and the battery box i can map out the speakers and radio for you.
also when putting a radio on it make sure you do go cheap with the Receiver, if you do it will not sound good at all, you can have $800 speakers and a $550 apm and hook it up to a 50 doller receiver and it will sound like junk.
http://www.newsales.com/car.htm here you can get cheaper speakers and receivers, i would recommend a min of 100watt receiver.

I want to see pics of it already done to see if it is an option that I would consider.
I took all the stickers off my bike and am going for a clean look so want to see if I like that way it looks before I do it.

all the stuff on that site is too big... which is the problem with pretty much all of the speakers/amps i've seen.. there seems to be a very small selection of motorcycle/scooter audio stuff out there. www.motorcycletunes.com sells 100 and 120 watt amps, but that doesn't seem very loud, i'm thinking of getting two of them, but i'd also like to know how much my battery can handle, and is there a "better" battery i can get? or can the charging system handle two batteries? i don't think i wanna get too extreme with a zillion batteries like mister zuma here, but i want the setup to be somewhat loud...

you just get car speakers not moto moto speakers dont sound good at all. no ther not to big you can run a 5 speaker step up on most yamaha and honda
you can run 2 6X9 speakers 2 round speakers, and a 10 inch sub
Zuma88
11-08-2004, 12:57 PM
3 batterys are not alot and no the change system will only handle one battery. right now my elite is not together im putting 60cc kit and homent exhuast and cleaning the frame as well as getting new neons on it. as well as polishing my lift kit for it.

There is physicaly not enough room for all these speakers PLUS two amps PLUS two extra batteries........... With no pics, I DO NOT believe it!!!!!!!!!

When I was in Key West, there was a guy cruz'n on a scoot with a really LOUD system. It had to at least of had an amp and big speakers for the volume and sound quality I herd emanating from it sput'n by. It had a hard case on the tail so that could have housed the battery and amp. With the efficiency of today's amps and with the current capabilities of "yellow" top batteries, its possible...

this one time at band camp...
Anyway!
I think that this has gone crazy...
The silly thing is that the big question is WHY IN THE HECK WOULD YOU NEED TO HAVE A STEREO WITH A SUB AND 2 AMPS ON A FREAKING SCOOTER!
Now, I understand that it's fun to make people look and wonder... however... how ghetto can you make it...
It's like running a 1970 jog or something and painting it rust, putting gold daytons on it and 44" mudder tires...
Kinda get the drift... Just doesn't make since to me...
Nothing wrong with putting a stereo on it... most "Big bikes" with stereo's are high noise only... there is a reason for that... going fast... with all the wind and road noise... you can't hear the stereo... you would be able to hear the high notes though...

I agree whole heartedly with Jered with his views on ghettofying a a scooter.
First rule of racing, weight slows you down, the more you add the slower the bike is so no one who races will needless add weight. You'd need a race setup to move the extra weight.
Second, I do understand music, I was pimpin' out in low riders and high performance stereo's systems before you were born back in a day we used terms like Hi-Fi, and ghetto blasters.
But there comes a point in time when yoo much excess just looks stupid. There's enjoying some music when you ride and when something just looks stupid. The only ones who may be remotely impressed by such a setup is going to be the hand few scooterist out there. Most people think we look stupid enough as it is riding any scooter, we really don't need anything else adding to the cause.
Anycase, I agree with Jered on this point to I think that this has gone crazy... Time to move on to better things. We've gone well beyond the scopes of the initial post.
