..#1.. I have been testing a theory of mine. The hybrid car turn off the engine at a stop light, so I have been turning off TANTOR at all stop lights but only during the day, not at night because as you all know our headlights turn off with the engine. Safty issue. Now for the data..... :drum: Drum roll Please...
My mileage increase was 9.01%, much higher than ixpected.
I'm not sure I would call it a free increase due to the increase of cycles on the starter, and possabilty of depleted battery if done only on short trips, and you have to watch the lights like a hawk so those behind dont get annoyed with you.
Take this and use to make up your mind.

Seems like that would cause extra wear on the engine and starter.

rumor from when younger was starting uses more fuel then idling...
but 9.1% increase of 70mpg is a lot...

I get 90 mpg on my vino. I think I can afford to let my vino Idle at stop lights but a train is another story. I did a little research on car starting and the amount of amps the starter uses to start your cars takes about 20 mins of driving time to replace the amps in your battery from starting

In the Yahoo group I saw a guy who posted photos that he disabled his accelerator pump on his carb and that gives you better milage since the accelerator pump throws extra fuel into the engine each time you accelerate, whether or not the engine really needs it. All you have to do is clamp the little bar that pushs down on the pump out of the way with a paper clamp. The guys claim is 5-10% increase in milage, with no changes in the way the scooter drives or rides.
He said he saw no ill effects with the way his engine ran. I'd buy that. You'd only know something was wrong if the engine tried to die on take off, which I doubt since you aren't racing stoplight to stoplight in the thing. He mentioned that this engine or carb may have been used on a bike with a manual transmission, not one with a CVT, and that the pump really isn't necessary on a CVT bike.
Here is a photo of what I'm talking about.

I have disabled the pump and I have noticed a huge difference in my mpg. I actually feel like the scoot has benefitted from this minor mod. It doesn't bog down when i floor it and just sounds like it is running better. I am getting close to 100 mpg and I drive it like i stole it i didn't even take precaution to the break in period. I just floored it from the start. I did put a iridium plug in as well if that does anything.

I would like to see a picture of what that looks like completed. I'm intrested in doing that mod because it may help in the bogging when I accelerate as well. It's worth a shot.

yeh i saw this before and didnt feel it was worthwhile for a mpg increase, but if enough people saw it helps take off a bit because of bogging then out comes the paperclip!

I tried the papper clip method and it actually works quite well. I did notice an increase on the life of my tank of gas. Does still seem to have a decent get up and go also. The only thing bad that I really noticed was no real top end. On a night with no wind, no nothing it took forever to get up to 50 mph. I am 160 lbs. 500 miles on scooter. Took the papper clip off and hit my normal 60-65mph no prob. If your just gonna scoot around town at 30-40 mph then why not it works and saves gas, but if your lookin for that extra umph...i simply didn't get it with the papper clip and i also do have an OEM windshield on. =)
Happy Scooting!!! :p

what i mean to say is it got from 0-45 no prob,, the climb upwards from there was very sluggish and slow, totally tuck down low and pull the elbows in even

I've never heard of anybody else having any change in top speed with the accelerator pump disabled. It's really only there for the initial drop in vacuum when you first hit the gas. As far as I know, nothing past half throttle or so is affected.
I have disabled it and other than it running better, nothing has changed. It gets up to speed, including 50+mph, as fast as it ever did.
I can't speak for gas milage since I've only run roughly half a tank through it since the modification and haven't been back to a station to top off.

looks like ill have to re hook up the clip and try again. I only tried to pin it once for the hell of it. And as i said seemed to crawl up to 50 and hung there only. But obviously seems I need to do a test on my statement...hhhmm will jot down the findings. =/

Well I used an actual paper clip, plain old worked fine for me. If you want to see how I rigged mine up I'll take a picture, but I'd need a request first before I go through all that trouble.

Yea Its on of those big black bull dog clips that you use to hold a bunch of papers together. I took me a few minutes to get it so it wouldn't hit the pump. But now I don't it will fall off or move. I actually have had a few friends do the same mod and they are still thanking me for the tip. I guess I should thank Tony (AZVINO) thanks man
