Hello all just got an extended warranty offer from Yamaha for my vino and since this is the first scooter I have ever owned I am trying to get an objective opinion on the value here. The offer gets me three more years of coverage for about $400.00. I tend to be a pincher of pennies but has anyone done a rundown of the cost of owning in real terms. Just curious... ;no

I passed on it. I don't believe it's worth it. They are just making an extra 400 bucks off of you.

Remember they will do nothing unless it benefits them. If they didn't make money off of extended warranties they wouldn't do them. I think at almost 3 grand they've made enough off of me already.

Save your money. I passed on it as well.
From what I have read-most of the dealers are not aware of the exhaust bolt problem with the Vino 125 & will not cover it under the warranty. And that is the biggest issue people have with this scooter.

The exhaust bolts coming loose have been affecting a small portion of the Vino 125's since they first were distributed in the US & Canada in 2004.
I know people who own the 06 models and have had the bolts come loose--so Yamaha has not remedied or acknowledged the problem.

IF you plan on keeping it stock and don't want to worry about anything... Then get the warrenty it'll replace ANYTHING that could happen to the scooter less accidents..

BUT! If you plan on working on it AT ALL... Then don't waste your moeny as any modifications to your scooter, VOIDS the warrenty!

some new guy just the other day made a comment... "Will the yamaha warenty cover my performance part or will they only replace the stock parts"... The answer to that is NEITHER! You go modifying a warrenty'd scooter and you VOID your warrenty.... So you have to choose...

Jered--Yamaha has not covered the missing exhaust bolts on several Vino 125's that were still under warranty--they attributed it to "normal wear & tear"

Still something I'd fight like mad about as it's a common issue.

I know dealing with a dealer can be a pain but when there is a large number of people...

IE the provo 125 owners... who make a petition and bring it to the attention of Yamaha corporate... Things happen... might I suggust that be started and then 1 POC bring it to the attention of Yamaha Co in email or writing as well as including how many people are having the issue and want it corrected..

I know this due to my SVT Focus I had... the tranny was garbage... after multiple people started having the same issue and got organized, not only was the tranny fixed with an update, out of warrenty cars were recalled and money was refunded...

Just a thought!

So far (knock on wood) my exhaust bolts are fine, but I asked my dealer if they knew anything about probs with the bolt and they said they were not aware of any, but would check them if I brought it in

their price for the first service is too high , so I am going to change the oil myself and have a local cycle shop do the inspection.

You can bet I will make a stink if the warranty doesn't cover the bolts if I have a problem with them....:D

I have checked mine (Exhaust bolts)and if they need to be replaced I will do it myself. I was trying to think what could go wrong on this thing that would equal $400.00...

cylinder - $150-200
piston - $75-100
rings $10-25
labor to install - $400

There's already what $1000?

anything that is not a "wear" part... IE: belts, rollers, brake pads and rotor (drums and shoes)... are all on you either way...

Not "normal wear and tear parts" IE: cylinders, connecting rods, cranks... etc... are all warrenty items...

If you are keeping it stock... I'd suggust that you get it.. .if you are planning on doing any mods to it... then don't get it...

I agree, unless your plans include screwing it up by modifying it, buy the warranty.
It sounds kind of "salesman-like" but there is a certain peace of mind that comes with knowing it's all covered.

Once I buy the 3 year coverage at what is there another offer later. THanks for the cost rundown that was exactly what I needed. I plan to run stock, because I think it is a great scoot as is. The only thuings I want to do are cosmetic Tailight, chrome trim wind screen. I am planning to buy a Stella in the next year or so complete with the sidecar economy willing. I think that may be the only way to get the wife on one.

This is exactly what I needed to hear. Jered thanks for the price rundown. My plan is to make this a daily driver and to get a Stella with sidecar as the weekendmobile for the two of us.

Good Luck on buying a new Stella. They closed up shop last December over a strike with employees. they havn't made any new stella's since and I dont know of a dealer who has one in stock. And it seems folks are buying up the used ones fast too

Some shops still have some Stellas left, but not much selection.. Genuine is no longer offering the Strella since the LML factory in India that makes them closed--you may be able to find a good used one , though.

Personally I think the warranty is a waste of $---two folks on the Vino 125 yahoo forum--one had 13 k miles on his Vino 125 before he was hit and another had 19k---Yamaha makes a good scooter--if you do the oil chnges and check the muffler bolts periodically--you'll have no problems.

I didn't get it on my Vino, but got a good deal on the Yam extended warranty for my '05 FJR1300 ($360) at D & H Cycle in Cullman, AL. 800-553-3311

the Y.E.S. contracts are a standard rate across the board for all Yamaha dealers...

so no deal from one to another dealer unless they are over charging at one (not supposed to do that)...

If its a toy not used often (2-4000 miles a year) I wouldn't bother. Its a good little scoot and problems should be minimal.
If its a higher mileage daily rider, you might consider it. Labor is 60-80 bucks an hour depending on where you live.
I opted to do without, but I have others to choose from for transportation while learning to repair the Vino. Everyone's situation and needs are different.
