Turns out in Massachusetts, the Zuma is considered a motorcycle, not a scooter. This is due to the fact that it has over 2hp. (aparantly it has about 5) Due to this fact, it not only needs to be registered, plated, and insured... I need a motorcycle license. Granted 40 bucks a month in insurance isnt bad, however making 60 dollar payments a month AND 40 dollar amonth payments on insurance is going to kill me... Am I forever damned to be a poor college kid without a decent ride?

However, this does suit as a plus in the way that if i wanted to beef up the engine i'd already have the motorcycle licence and insurance... However that darn money problem keeps popping up. *sigh* It's kinda BS in a way though... because there's a kid with a Derbi Predator, 50cc, liquid cooled, on campus... and all he's got is the little inspection sticker... Kindof a rip off if you ask me... WTF?

That's exactly why I feel when you do get cought... that they suspend your license till your 18.... and if over 18... for a year...

Anyone who CHOOSES TO break a law such as mentioned above... needs to not have the right or privilage of driving... as they are truely not mature enough to handle the responsibilty....

Act like an adult and keep your rights... act like a child and you should loose them... Just my opinion... but I think a worthy one...

if you are going by the law ther are no legal mopeds\scooter
all hav a half 2-4 horse power over the legal limt and even the honda metro 2 is 3.0hp so is 1 horse power over.

In Maryland, and as is with the majority of states, if it runs over 30mph it's a motorcycle, hence why the Vino and the Metro II are restricted. In MD, the Zuma is actually classified as a motorcycle.

As far as Zuma88 remark goes that no one enforces it, bull*****, I know for a fact having worked at both a motorcycle shop and as the leader for the FEZ SC, (and as an ex-cop) We have had quite a few issues with folks riding unrestricted scooters with out a motorcycle's license to a point where we prohibit anyone from rider an unrestricted scooter without a the proper endorsement. Restricted (mopeds) may only ride with us if the owner is of legal age with a driver's license, derestricted riders or with scooters over 50cc can only ride with us if they have a motorcycle endorsement. Most SC's do t his now as a matter of liability. As for Zuma88's second comment about there being no legal difference between a scooter and a moped, also bunk, those definitions vary between each state. And what Ind says and what MA says are two completely different things.

I agree 100% with Jered's remark. It's that kind of arrogant BS from kids why those of us who are older and responsible paying out the tailpipe for insurance which leads me to my next point.I have Progressive, but beware they are not offered in all states. I recall FreakyFrankie13 discovered the hard way that Progressive would not insure his TNG Venice in Florida. I have Progressive in MD, and I'm well I'm below a hundred a year. Last time I gave an exact quote some one got pissed off because they thought they were going to get the same quote as I did and become rather irate.

Agree with King, Jered and Lennox on this one...

The more people giving scooter riders a bad names will mean the more of us get inconvenienced by being pulled over more often. Call it profiling- the more people a cop finds breaking the law on scooters, the more they will pull over scooter riders.

I pay $160/year in MD with Progressive. My driving record is a mess- dwi's, driving w/o license and few more things from my wild child days..

Good luck bro- hate to see you not being able to scoot!

I moved the bulk of the insurance discussion to a new thread to help seperate the talk easier. It's a bit tough to have a multi-subject thread and be able to keep up with and hit al lthe points. You can find the new thread here: NEW INSURANCE THREAD (http://www.provoscooter.com/vbull/showthread.php?p=5731&posted=1#post5731)
