Anyone have nitrogen in their tires? I have it in my car but i think the it would be a noticible difference as opposed to air. Let me know i might go to costco today and get it done. i'll let ya'll know but if someone has it hit me back

Air is about 80 percent nitrogen, so I'm not sure one would notice a difference. The aircraft I flew in while in the Navy had the tires filled with nitrogen, but that was to keep the fire down a bit if one hit the flight deck a bit too hard!

i guess there is advantages to having nitrogen filled tires

Supposedly they expand and contract less than stale air..

Nitrogen is used in planes to reduce the chance of explosion or fire. Unless you're doing something seriously wrong with your scoot, neither of those should be a concern with your wheels, so I'm not sure what you hope to gain.

Sounds like snake oil to me.... you'd get just as much performance improvement out of a "Type R" sticker on the rear panel and a shiny coffee can bolted on to your muffler.

This would be a waste of time. And money. And energy.

Used in NASCAR, Formula 1, Tour de France and even in military aircraft:

In 7 million miles of truck tire testing, nitrogen inflated tires lasted longer.
Tire failures were reduced by 50%
Tread life was increased by 25-30%
Fuel economy was increased by 5-6%
Improves Performance
Improves steering
Improves handling
Improves braking
Reduces chance of tire failure
Dramatically slows pressure loss from permeation
Stabilizes pressure and virtually eliminates pressure fluctuations due to temperature change
Reduces tire oxidation
Eliminates interior wheel corrosion
Reduces running temperatures

For a buck or two per tire, I'd definately do it.

And what do any of those have in common with a 200lb 40mph scooter?

Tour de France.....hmm I'd have to strongly question the validity of that arguement. Nascar....maybe...formula 1....maybe...Tour de france.....yea right. What won in the tour de france was a doped up rider.

Do what you want. I wouldn't bother, but I am interested to know if there is any real difference. I just doubt it, or they would do it in all tires of all vehicles.

Yes, what do those fools know? I guess they should have checked with you first.

And where did you get your info from? You posted data, no source of any kind? I don't really give a damn if you put piss in your tires, I'm just saying on a scooter I think you are wasting your time.

Don't ask for people's opinions on something if you really aren't prepared for both positive and negative.

If you would actually read what I wrote rather than trying to get defensive...I put that in NASCAR and F-1 it might make a difference. In the bicycle race though, no, you would have to show me some hard evidence that it did anything at all. I know for airplanes it's very important, but not for performance, just to make sure the tire doesn't blow up.

I get that on this forum people can't take criticism (sp?). If I think you are doing something unsafe or feel you are wasting money, I will speak up. You don't have to listen or even acknowledge what I say, but I will say it. I work very hard for the few nickels I make. Anything I do I will run in front of people who've already done it. If they say don't do it, I won't. For example....I was going to upgrade the muffler on my truck. After talking to a couple of people who did, they said it wasn't enough of an upgrade in performance to justify the cost and trouble of changing it. Nuff said. Had they not opened their mouth I'd have been pissed and 200 bucks poorer.

I will never say anything to upset anybody. If I upset you it's only because I struck a nerve, and that may be a good thing. If you immediately get defensive then you weren't really looking for an opinion, just support for what you were doing. In that case, take the question mark away from your posts' title.

Main reason nitrogen is used in tires is that it is inert and DRY... The lack of moisture helps with pressure fluctuations in a tire. That's about it's only benefit.

Inlaws just gave us a car that they had done this to (97 maxima 6-cyl). I to am skeptical but it wasn't my money so they can do what they want. I have owned many cars and filled the tires with standard gas station air and as of yet never had a blowout or explosion. I understand the properties but I still think this is money poorly spent on a scooter, just seems like overkill to me. Save the cash and buy a tanks of gas instead. That would be my two cents but again it isn't my money.

I so rich!!! I didn't even have to spend money on it. I asked the guys at costco and they were dude we'll do it for free for that thing. So I'm rolling on nitro *potty mouth**potty mouth**potty mouth**potty mouth**potty mouth*es!!! I'll gonna do so much more speeds now hahahaha. I doubt anything will come from it but I i noticed any difference i'll let ya'll know.

The main reason for nitrogen in aircraft tires is because the pressure doesn't change from the extreme cold while flying to extreme heat while landing. the tires remain constant pressure.
