I have 2 '02 GP1 derbis and had a question concerning durability. One is bone stock derestricted without any performance parts on it and runs fine (tho' down on power for my size). The other was purchased with a seized motor, but seems to have a Dell 19mm carb, Metrakit Handmade exhaust and looks like the cylinder was replaced, my guess with a big bore. I'm interested in doing up the stock one, but am concerned about durability after looking at the seized scoot. Any thoughts on the 12hp kit versus the 18hp kit? I also have an air-cooled '01 Atlantis that is being put back to running condition that will get at least a stage 1 kit. Living in the Puget Sound region means hills all over in the metropolitan area so having power to pull the hills is important. :D

I'm thinking the Stage III kit on one, and the Stage II kit on the other. Seriously, I might take one out for the occasional flog, but also look into some track time with it. The other would do some commute time, hence still needing power for hills and getting up to speed without getting run over.
The Atlantis is an air cooled version. Need to look into more on that one, though heat is less of a concern in Pugetopolis than elsewhere.

It's all in the application your choosing it for... if your racing it as you mentioned... go with the race set up... or your look silly out there with others in that set up...
With the speed can come some reliablilty problems... however if you take care of them... be gentle with the occasional WOT run... Then it'll last a while...
Stage 3 on mine was all in one shot... the Acceleration drastically increased and a little on the top end... With gears and a new CDI it's about 55mph range.... However this is on a zuma... which are proned to hi speed issues... So... with that beings said..
I doubt the seized one was tuned correctly or wasn't supplied with enought oil...
Just my thoughs...

"I doubt the seized one was tuned correctly or wasn't supplied with enought oil..."
My thoughts exactly. I think there is a mod that can be done to up the oil pump output, but haven't looked into it yet

I know that lennox and I have chatted a little about the reliability of the oil pump, pumping enough oil out for a 70cc upgraded engine...
I haven't yet but will and lennox already is running a "premix" set up...
Makes for a little more work but you knwo that your getting the correct amount oil that way...
I bought a funnel at the local store here that has "premix" amounts per .5, 1 and 1.5 gallons of gas... so it works perfect for me... I fill the funnel up to the desired premix for the amount of gas I have and pour it in...
I think it was $2.50 for the funnel...
Just a thought... then much less chance of toasting the cylinder...
