This was part of an expermental FAQ Erich started but never finished. First off, it is time to save a little money unless you got tons.

Ride your scooter for a few weeks to every place you would normally drive.
-the reason for this is you got to know some information about the likes and dislikes about your scooter.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when riding.

When I approach this hill, am I worried that I will go to slow for the traffic?

When I go down this hill do I feel like I am holding up traffic?

When I start from a stand still, am I accelerating as fast as I would like?

When I am driving down the road is the ride nice and smooth or a little too bumpy?

Am I going to ever take this off road?

There are a lot of questions to ask your self, the reason why I say get to know your bike first is because you have to know what you need. There is a big difference between going faster and maintaining speed. Lots of people think if there bikes can go faster then they will be able to go up hills faster, and this is a really big let down. Also you have to know if your bike is comfortable for you to ride, there are lots of aftermarket suspensions out there to make your ride a lot more comfortable.

I have personally broken up parts into certain categories.
Engine:
70cc Torque - The one kit that fits in this category is the Top Performance 70cc, which is designed to help you go up all those hills faster and give you a great acceleration

70cc General Purpose - There are many kits that fit into this category, which includes almost all Cast iron 70cc. This is the middle ground.

70cc High HP - Aluminum Kits fit this category nicely, although they do not have loads of torque, they have high HP and Rev extremely high. The downside is there life span is not near as great as a cast iron. But if you are looking for lots of speed this is the way to go. There is only one Cast Iron that fits in this category and that is the Polini Corsa Kit.

Exhaust:
Now exhaust there is another 3 category option.
50cc Non Expansion Pipe - These pipe are made to maximize the performance of the stock cylinder, they are very quite and usually do not need any other modification to the transmission system.

3 piece Expansion Chamber Pipe - these are for both 50cc and 70cc, and provide extra torque and HP by giving you a supercharging effect to the engine.

5 Piece Race Expansion Chamber - these are for High Revving engines but will work very nicely with stock and 70cc engines. These pipes require heavy tuning but will give you the most performance.

Transmission:
This is seriously personal preference, you can have and engine that puts out huge power but without the right tuning and the proper parts you will not get the performance you want. There are a few parts that you will want to learn more about for tuning purposes.
Variator
Roller Weights
Belt
Clutch
Clutch Springs
Torque Driver Spring

These are the most common parts to change. During your Tuning you will look into getting a 21mm Carb for that 70cc and most likely a new air filter also. Well I hope this will give you a little insight on what you can change (pretty much anything and everything). If you have any other questions just ask on the group.

Very interesting indeed.... but why isn't there a 70cc kit that's long lasting, reliable, gives plenty of torque and acceleration, and has great hp and reaches high top speeds??? Malossi, polini, Top Performance....... is this too much to ask for?

Well that was in the old days when cast iron was the shiznieg, but now we have the aluminum, so it's not as bad as was before.
