I had to open a new one :)
Passanger on Vino? Why is it NO by default and what do you really need to have a passanger ?

Provoscooter sells a vino buddy seat... it will allow the seat to be big enought to carry passengers...
I am unaware of any reasons to why you couldn't ride with a passenger....
However check your local laws... most states require you to have a license not a permit to ride with 2 people on a motorcycle....
You might also have to have it registered to be legal to carry a passenger....

From what I can see from the guidebook, there is a weight limit on the Vino. The salesguy at the place I bought my scooter at also told me that I shouldn't be putting two people on my scooter since I could possibly damage the scooter if we ran over something that caused the scooter to put more force on the shocks than should be. If you want to carry two people, I'd make sure the roads you'll be travelling on are very smooth and aren't under construction, and that they are in great condition. If you really want to ride with two people, I'd just get a scooter with a stronger engine (125cc and up). Better be safe than sorry. :)

The Vino's owners manual and warning sticker on the scooter restriction reads 150 max. It also reads 7 lbs max for the rear rack. One explanation commonly stated on here has to do with the rear shock. When I worked at YMC, Jeff (one of the service mechs) stated before I started that the weight restriction is limited because of a structural stability limitation of the actual frame. But we all know that 90% of us Vino owners are well over that 150 limit.

True, however one person riding at 230 lb or so is still a lot better than two people totalling 340 lb or more (for example, I'm 135 and my boyfriend is 210). I wouldn't mind letting my cousin, who's only about 100 lb or so, share a ride with me for a little bit, but my boyfriend? That might be pushing it, especially if we rode over a mini-pothole. :|

i've probably put a thousand miles or so on my vino with a passenger, my girlfriend and i used to ride everywhere together before she got her own vino.. good roads, bad roads, etc, and my bike is fine, though it is a little scary at times, especially riding with heavier passengers, which i've done a few times and don't want to ever do again. just the other night i drove a friend of mine home, the two of us probably total around 370-380 pounds, it was the first time i'd driven with a passenger since i got the michelin s1 tires and the bike was making high pitched squeeking noises every once in a while, i thought maybe it was the larger tires just barely scraping against the wheel well or something? anyone know anything about this? also, as far as the shocks goes, does anyone know if it would it help (in carrying a passenger) to buy the better shocks sold on this site?

I would deinitely upgrade the shock if you are carrying a passenger--
I don't carry a passenger (yet) but did install the same MDI shock that Provo carries & the scoot doesn't bottom out on the speed bumps like it used to or on my friend's ridiculously high driveway curb.
the ride is also smoother and you can adjust this shock as well.

Another option is to install a spacer between the rear shock and the bracket to raise it 40mm. I've seen Asian scooter shops selling these for the Vino, one day I'll get around to adding it.
