Well, I went out to start the Vino and I heard this god awful grinding sound when I hit the electric starter button. I tried it a few more times and the grinding sound continued. The scoot would still start but it would make the grinding sound for about a second or two before it fired up. So I took it out for a short 15 minute spin and came back. Tried starting it again and the grinding had completley stopped. The sound went away. What's going on??

well... there is a gear inside the variator case that the starter kicks out into... Either the teeth on the starter or on that gear could be damaged...
When the battery was dead on mine it made a grinding noise when hitting the start button... but it didn't start the scooter... So that doesn't sound like it applies...
Have you messed with the variator lately? You might want to go back and make sure that everything is installed teh way it's supposed to be...

1) Make sure your kickstart is back at its position. Just mess around with it, up and down.
2) Check OIL pressure
I had low oil and when I added more oil it stopped with that awfull grinding noise.

what do you mean LOW OIL?
The only oil in the scooter is not "pressurized"
You have gear oil... which lubes the final drive gears...
and injector/premix 2 stroke oil...
Neither will cause the bike to "grind" when pressing the start button....
Unless there is something new that I don't know... There is not 1 drop of oil in the engine case... so there should be no "low pressure".... Right?!
