My belt broke on my 04 Zuma. I ordered my new belt and gasket and was trying to replace the belt this weekend. We have the belt on and when we start the scooter up the belt seems to be tight, but then becomes loose. Everything seems to be turning, including the wheel, but the scooter itself doesnt move when we give it gas to try to accelerate. Did I miss a step or do I need a special tool to tighen the belt? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks o_o

take a look at the stage one install, and read about putting the belt back on.

another helpfull thing to read is the zuma service manual, that is on this sites home page.

hope those two help you out.

did you make sure that the old and new belt were the same length?

You cannot adjust the tension of the belt, the CVT takes care of that for you.

I ordered the parts directly from the Yamaha dealership. My belt completely broke/shattered (as the shop told me) and there is nothing left of the old belt to compare the new belt with. I have the yamaha service manual and with the link provided in the prior post we think we can now solve our problem...hopefully or I'll be back looking for more advice. Thanks for the help! o_o

what was wrong exactly? lol, just so i know in the future;) oh and btw I had TWO stock yamaha belts snap and that's why I now have the kevlar belt! even if i didn't get the performance parts I still would have gotten the kevlar! i hate the stock one's with a passion now! lol, they've left me stranded a few times, thank god for cell phones! lol:D
