Ok...I've got a bit of everything. To the East I'm only about 45 minutes from
this:pic 1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/indybill/PNW/40_TOUR_134_2456.jpg)

To the West I'm about 1 1/2 hours from this: pic 2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/indybill/PNW/viewnorth2.jpg)

And this is right in my back yard: pic 3 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/indybill/PNW/crownPt.jpg)

Oh, and it occassionally snows in the winter: pic 4 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/indybill/PNW/Gortoncreek1987.jpg)

I've lived here all of my 37 years and have no plans of leaving.

Oh, so you want some snow pics huh? Well, we had a doozie of a
winter here this past year! Here's some pics of my bus yard:

snow pic1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/indybill/snow%202004/DCP_0457.jpg)
snow pic2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/indybill/snow%202004/DCP_0458.jpg)
snow pic3 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v286/indybill/snow%202004/DCP_0460.jpg)

It was so cold the snow just blew around like powdered sugar. School was
closed for the rest of the week due to temps in the teens and deep snow
drifts everywhere. Then it warmed up a bit and we got freezing rain 2"
thick on everything. This only happens about once every 10 years but
when it does look out!

Southwestern Pennsylvania is a lovely place to ride... rolling hills, beautiful countryside. Here's a picture of me taken last summer on a group ride in front of a farm in Pennsylvania Dutch country about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh, just outside of a town called Volant.

Wow, Volant has some of the coolest arts and crafts stores that I have ever been too! My cousins live in Grove City, and my family used to have a cabin on the Allegheny in Emlenton( Venengo County )

Len...

Yes, Volant is a wonderful place to browse the shops. But then... Amish and Dutch towns tend to be filled with them. I discovered a neat one about an hour south of Indianapolis last year... Lexington, as I recall. There's another just the other side of Steubenville Ohio that we used to visit. Blacksmith and all!

I just got back from Miami again. It was sunny, partly cloudy, and 72 when we left. It's raining here now and supposed to snow tonight. Guess my bikes will sit unused for a while now. Oh well... it was a good couple of warm days here for a february.

Erika

p.s. I almost bought an RD-350 from a guy in Grove City last year. Now THAT is a fun 2 stroke!

Hi John,

Funny thing about that RD-350...

Back in high school my boyfriend raced motocross. He taught me how to ride and when we graduated from high-school he talked me into getting my parents to give me a Yamaha R5 for graduation. It was the prototype for the RD-350 and was called the giant killer by the motorcycle media at the time.It was fast and handled so well that it was winning all of the open class races at the time.

It's a long story, but in short I loved that bike. It ended up putting me in the hospital, but I recovered and rode after that. I stopped riding when I had my children, but they're grown now, and I'm riding again. I think I'd like to own an RD-350 now. ;)

Oh... and it was a cager doing an abrupt left in front of me that put me in the hospital. It was really bad.

But I was young and my body healed. I learned a lot from that experience. Watch out for the cagers... they are idiots and will kill you.

BTW... I flew over JAX this afternoon... wondered where you were.

Hope all is well. :)

European laws.
It's not because European kids can't afford the cars that American kids get. Generally Europeans have more disposable income than we do and much more time to dispose of it (minimum six weeks vacation a year plus holidays and unlimited sick time.)

There have very different licensing laws to us. Minimum age ranges may vary by a year or two from country to country in the E.U., but most use this basic framework.

Minimum age 14 years (some countries require plates some don't) under 50cc (i.e. 49.9cc) can have gears or can be CVT (automatic) must not be capable of more than 45kmh (29mph) You can also get Microcars with the same restriction for those who don't want to get wet. My nephew lives in Spain and rides a Daelim S Five. The first thing he asked me, by e-mail I live in NC, was how do I make it go faster. I told him to remove the restrictor ring from between the two halves of the front pulley. Voila he had 85kmh (53mph) He wanted more speed so I advised him 72cc Metrakit big bore kit, 22mm Delorto carb, Mallossi Hyper Racing variator and gear up kit and a Gianelli expansion chamber (race exhaust) it now does 130kmh (81mph) and will pull wheelies
at 100kmh (62mph) Not one of his friends has a standard 45kmh (29mph) scooter or mini crotch rocket. The geared bikes are no faster when tuned.

The next step is 16 years old. You can have a 125cc which is meant to be restricted to 15hp (enough for about 75mph, or in Germany only 50mph as they are not only power restricted there, but also speed restricted)
My nephew has lots of friends with Cagiva Mito's or Aprilia RS125's or Cagiva Super City's or Suzuki RG125's or Yamaha TZR125's or Honda NSR125's etc.
Not one of them still has it's restrictors on. They all do between 95 and 115mph without tuning, just derestriction. The fastest being the Cagiva Mito at 115mph and the Aprilia RS125 at aroung 105mph. The power output without tuning, just by removing or replacing the restricting parts with full power parts ranges from about 28hp for the Japanese bikes to 32 and 35hp respectivley for the two fastest Italian bikes. There is also a host of tuning parts for these bikes that get them even higher.

Next step is is 18 years old and 32hp. Most of these are 400cc versions of popular 600cc 4 stroke supersports bikes (You know the ones that are popular here like the Gixxer, FZR, Ninja, CBR600RR etc.) Most if not all of these are also derestricted as soon as they get off the showroom floor and are usually good for around 140mph. Also very popular are 2 stroke 250cc's like the Aprilia RS250 (which is road legal in the E.U.) and Honda NSR250' Yamaha TZR250 etc. etc. simple derestiction will see them at 135+mph. There is no capacity limit at 18 years old so you often see large bike 1000cc+ that have been registered as restricted 32hp rides, but quite often they are derestricted as soon as they leave the showroom.

At 21+ years of age you have an open class motorcycle license, as long as you have had a 32hp license for at least 3 years before.

The car driving age for most Europeans ranges from 17 to 18. The tests are much much harder than ours. Motorcycles are much more popular in Europe than here for a variety of reasons, affordability has very little if anything to do with it. Those that will go for cars do so as soon as they hit 17 (or 18 in some countries) and never get on a bike or scoot again. They drive the same kind of rice rockets and Hot hatchbacks that kids here drive. They generally have no desire to drive SUV's as they are seen as lumbering dinosaurs. They are much more into the cars that are used in the World Rally Championship.
When was the last time a Trailblazer or similar won the WRC.
