What colour should the firing end of the spark plug be? I just pulled it after 1800 kms on my 2004 Vino. It is sort of chalky white. I checked it after 500kms, and it was chocolate brown. Now its white.

I checked the spark plug guide provided in the carb maintenance section, but my plug does not look like anything on the page.

Any tips would be appreciated.

If you have done nothing but drive it and it changed from chocolate to white... You need to adjust the air/fuel mixture... White means your running lean...

I'd also recommend cleaning the air filter before you do this, so you don't tune it to a dirty filter...

Hey Jered,
Can you just open up the filter box and wash your filter?
Might seem like a silly question.

I guess if I go look at my filter I could decide on my own
But that involves leaving the comfort of my desk.
Lifes decissions!!!!!!!!!
Thanks

Yeah!! you can Open the Air Filter!! and Clean with A Cleaning Solution

Let the Air Filter Dry a little in the Sun!!
Before installing it back in to the BOX and wipe the Sides and Ports .

Well, I did adjust the idle a bit - about a 1/4 turn clockwise. I thought it was idling a little slow. Is this what you mean by it running a bit lean? If I roll it back a bit, will that avoid the white deposits?

I will also give the air cleaner a clean too. The scooter has 1800 km on it, and I have not cleaned the filter yet.

thanks for the help.

sorry I didn't reply already.. .yes you can open the filter box and clean the filter... it's just a foam filter, not sure if the yamaha manual says to do so but it's like a lawn mower filter... So place some oil drops on the foam and squeeze it a few times to get the thing coated in a VERY LIGHT oil layer... This makes it catch dirt before it gets into the engine... If it's dry it'll just let the gunk through...

The idle and the air/fuel mixture screws are different... I never adjusted the stock carb so I couldn't even tell you which is which... However one will make the idle change as soon as you start to move it... The other one will be your air/fuel mix screw... This is the one that you adjust to make the engine run richer or leaner...In should be lean and out should be richer... Also this screw normally takes 1/8th turns at a time... it's normally only a tiny bit off... so don't turn it much...

I like the help.....

I'm getting ready to go out and work on it now.

I'll post my results.

If your idle changes with the first screw, turn it back to your start and mess with the other screw. Sounds easy to me.

thanks
