So I took my wheels off to get powdercoated black which by the way look amazing, anyways the springs that hold the back brake shoes together were broken when I took the wheel off. I was thinking it would be a simple fix but after going and calling all my local scooter/atv dealers I am empty handed and really upset.

Turns out the dealer I bought my scooter from stopped selling malaguti's which doesnt help very much. Now im stuck with no scooter.

My rant and rave.

Snyeed..I got my Derbi rear brake going with a rear brake cable from a 2005 Zuma..I just had to grind down the piece that fit into the rear holder...not the end..just the piece that had to fit into the holder...Tweaking Newer Scooter parts is half this tuning fun.....It was even the correct length..

Well my dad order some from a website, Im sure they wont be here till monday which means another beautiful weekend of no riding. I think some F-12's and F-15 malagutis are rear drum break, I should look into that.

Sorry..just re-read that its the springs that hold the shoes together..if you had a shop or could get to The scooter lounge you could compare the broken peices to another brands brake springs.

After waiting over a month for my parts from germany they finally arrived. For some reason they got shipped from SLC to DHL main center where a lady called me saying she has my box sitting on her desk and she doesnt know why. She overnighted it for me and I got them today. My mid range problem is gone see ya buh bye, It pulls straight to 60mph in no time flat. When I cruise I can gun it and it just pulls, I am in love with my scooter all over again. Reeds and such come this weekend which I cant wait.

Hey John, Nope didnt take any pictures but upon request I can take some. Thanks for the compliments, I get looks everywhere I go, I cant help but smile when I see people checking out my scooter.

My next goal is installing HID's but I have no idea if it will work. I know HID's ballasts are 35w and thats what my scooter lights our right now. I gotta look into it some more.

Why did you order parts from Germany? You can still get the parts for your Malaguti from MRP in Florida (the original importer of them). They suck, but they do have the parts. I havent had any problems getting stuff...including a new gas tank (just last October). Also, rear drum brake parts are common to other Minerelli Horizontal powered scoots like Vino.

Watch out on this one. The lights are powered straight from the magneto at 12v AC (not DC). Standard ballasts require a 12VDC supply. You have to rectify the power to DC. When I tried to do this I noticed I had a .5V DC offset in the AC power (I have a ballast and lamp from an 03 Mini Cooper). The safest way is to re-wire to the battery (which gets its charging in DC from the engine). BUT the circuit that feeds the battery charge is already taxed out on power (and can barely handle the automotive horn I have installed). I havent had time to figure out a work around (too busy making it go faster).

Awesome thats the kind of info I have been waiting for. How about another battery under the seat powering just the HID's? I might give up some of the seat space for being able to see the road better at night.

A second battery would work, but then you would have to charge it from the existing lighting circuit. This would require adding a diode bridge or rectifier to convert the AC to DC. I havent tried this, so I cant guarrantee that the electrical system would accept this mod. They unfortunately build the electrical systems on these things so they are maxed out from the factory...
