I've been enjoying this site for two months now.
I finally have been working on my scoot. (01 vino)
It's a theft recovery,
I need to buy a new battery, but have been keeping it charged.
After starting, the scoot sounds good but dies when givin gas. I let it idel for 5 minutes. then it died again after throttle.
I tried a few times in a row. Same
The kick start works, as the battery is dieing.
I drove it all but 30 yards tonight.
I had taken off the clutch housing to check the variator, and that was done so I just put it back together. I really haven't done much since I bought it other than body stuff. I was told it might have a low compression.
I like taking it a part but need to know more. I am thinking of taking a part the cylinder to check it and or rebuild the carb but am not sure what to look for. I can take pics and post them.
You guys/gals are great.
I want to get this bike running good, then paint, then up stage.

I put the front back together this morning(chrome signals). Was letting her warm up as I was doing so.
Had to pump up the rubber(hadn't checked them since I put on the chrome rims and tires I got from Erich).
Then I was off and running. Scoot seemed to drive smooth.
Quick little burst off the line, then slow till 10 mph.
After 10mph It picked up a notch and was smooth up to 35mph.
I didn't have room to try any more speed.
I know it's derestricted and I think the variator was removed. How much more should I expect on top speed? Is this acceleration normal?
I'm still concerned about the entire engine because it was a theft recovery.
What should I do next???????????
I loved being able to ride finally.
Awesome

Glad to hear you finally got to take it for a spin!

There are a couple of things to try out but you'll need some parts to play with...

1st and the biggest is to make sure that your carb is tuned correctly... You'll figure that part out eventually... Basically you want chocolate colored plugs from idle to WOT (wide open throttle)...

2nd thing to check is, variator... Your weights might need replacing... also might need to change the weights due to vehicle/rider weight differences... weather, altitude, etc...

3rd, your torque spring could be incorrect... when you have an upgraded variator on your scooter, you normally have to install a larger torque spring... Basically it's about 6-8" long spring than you compress in between the clutch and the rear pulley...

That is where I would start...

The thing is that the scooter shouldn't have power and then loose it, like you said happens from idle to 10mph... if anything it should be a bog to about 5mph then take off...

also a top speed on a derestricted vino should be 40-45 or so, RIGHT KING?

Thanks for the info Jered;
I left all the rear panels off to make my life easier.
Can I check that spring easily by pulling off the housing like the variator?
I'm having trouble with my printer so I cant print the diagrams from the CD you gave me.

I've taken apart the carb on my moped. Is the scoot similar?
Should i maybe clean it out? Or just make sure the plug is burning correctly?

plug check for WOT= Race up the street, turn off bike, then check plug?

You guys kick arse
