Today I took off those stock 89/90-10 Cheng Shin tires and installed some Michelin 3.00-10 S83s (same as the S1, but with the all-weather tread). They're a little bigger and look better proportioned to the bike as a whole, the load rating is higher, and the ride smoother. Too bad they don't come in a whitewall. Today is good.

More good news...
The all-weather tread on the Michelins handles crossing bridge gratings much better than the "performance" tread on those Cheng Shin things. There was almost none of that nerve-racking side-to-side jostling that makes you wonder if you're going to spill on a big cheese grater. Comparing the prices of the two, it gives new meaning to the old saying "you get what you pay for".
