I have a 1987 Yamaha CE50 Jog. The Yamaha dealer tells me I need a new petcock valve (part number 1hv245000000) and that it is on backorder (has been at the dealer for the past 6 months awaiting said petcock).

I would like to ride the scooter, and can't without this part. The scooter will ride for a short while and then the engine will stop and can't be restarted for some time.

I have searched on the web for this part, and haven't been able to find it. I have also heard that these parts aren't even made any more.

Question is: does anyone know anything about this? I am open to replacement parts, or something that will 'do the job'.

Thank you for your help!

PS: I am NOT mechanically inclined...

You should take it off and try to clean it...if you can't blow air through it when open..it might be clogged or blocked.

the other thing, try looking on ebay for a used tank and see if you can get one that way... It'd be faster!

As FDR mentioned, you can try and clean it out... they are a pretty basic set up, a rubber vavle inside a pancaked metal plate...

As long as you put it back in the same you take the rubber out...

Thank you both very much for the advice!
I will talk to the mechanic about these ideas to see if this will help.

I took my petcock (vaccum) and cut the inside out... I would have removed it completely but it also is the hook up for fuel coming out of the tank... so I had modify it to work...

I made it free flow so there is no more issues of the vaccum not opening the fuel (I had seriously modded my scooter before and didn't think I was getting enough fuel)... needless to say once I opened the petcock to be "free flow" I installed a manual fuel shut off to allow a way to stop fuel from flowing (good idea) as I had fuel leak out of my carb once and it just dumped a gallon of gas through the overflow...

I bought 3 shut off, plastic and they work perfectly... off of ebay for something like $2.00 shipped I can't remember the exact price but if you do that, since your petcock (fuel shut off) is bad, then it's an easy, fast and cheap fix... that's IMO better then the stock set up...
