i may have asked something similar some time ago, but i cant find it.
may have been another forum.

the florida DMV seems to consider a scooter, a motorized vehicle. (NOT a moped) and you suposedly need a drivers license, and license plate to operate it on public roads.

around here, you dont need a license for a moped.
but a moped is only a moped, if it has pedals.

i was wondering if ANYONE on this forum has recieved, or heard of someone recieving a ticket for not having a license, on a 49cc scooter.
in florida.

more specificly, has anyone been pulled over on the scooter without a license, and let off without being ticketed for driving the scooter without one?

thats not the point.
i have been pulled over, no license on the scooter, i ran a stop sign (getting used to the brakes and stuff.) im pretty sure i was speeding a bit. the officer didnt even ask for a license, just gave me a verbal warning after i explained i just got the scooter and i was trying to figure it out, get used to it, adjust the brakes etc.
i mean, maybe the guy was just cool and figured it wasnt worth giving me a hard time over. my lucky day maybe?

i know what the law says, but ive been actively looking for people that have been busted driving a scooter without a license and i havnt found anyone. around here getting nailed for driving a scooter without a license in this city.
i talked to a few people that drive scooters because they lost their license.
even the local repair/sale/rental shop says they sell scooters to license-less people, and never heard of anyone getting nailed for it.

I use to bust people for it with the PD back in the day all the time. I'm a bit surprised if you ran a stop that the officer did not ask for a license because he has to radio a stop in every time one is made, and dispatch waits for the tag number or license number to be run through NCIC. Cops won't ever violate SOP making a stop without notifying dispatch simply for the fact that if they were involved in an altercations dispatch could not respond to the 10-13 without a 20.

every time i run a stop sign they always ask for my ID and read it over and then give it back.
i have a elite LXJ that i modified and 3 speed to it

he didnt exactly pull me over, he pulled up behind me after i stopped the scooter in the parking lot here. no lights or anything.
he did radio in before he started talking to me, and then when he was done.

he just told me i needed a license plate, i told him it was in the mail, i was expecting it in a day or two.
he also told me i need to follow the same laws that people on bikes and cars do.

yea, it was sort of surprising.
the officers around here are pretty easy going compared to anywhere else i ever lived.
