Good Day !

I am posting all the way from canada.

I have aquired 3 Honda Lead 90's recently imported... already sold one.. and have 2 left.

After ALOT of searching and not finding much about it in english language i find myself here, refered from a trike forum.

It is a 90cc 2 stroke Honda, all the stickers are japanese.. non-runners so far but that should not take very long... lol... one has 21 000 km's and the other only has 7000 kms.

Can any of you tell me about this scooter ?

oh.. and a question as well.

It has electric start. thank god.. i got a new battery, the type you add the acid yourself and charge it... did that and plugged it in.

Put a bit of gas in the tank ( it was drained for shipping and been dry a long time .. up to a year or so )

When i hit the starter button it turns over once and then Wrrrrrr... the gears don't stay engaged... that common?

either battery issues or the starter could be bad... it's not normal, but if the battery is dead... it could be the cause...

I'm heading to the garage later today.. i need to remove the gas tank and flush it out.. pretty cruddy..

Any idea what other model honda would be the equivalent in canada ? If i need parts for this thing i hope i don't have too much of a hard time getting them.. They do look good tho.. I will snap some pictures later !

ohhhhh maaaaaaan....

I just took the entire thing apart to get to the gas tank... it comes up from under the floor board..

The thing has a 1/16 th thick crust of rust and grime all over the inside.. I think it sat in a warehouse for a few years with a half tank full of fuel.. got moisture in it and rot to hell..

I put fresh gas and a handfull of washers in it and shook til my arms got sore abot 10 times.. empty/fill.. and it's still comming out orange !!

This means the carb must be coated as well... ugh..

I wish i had an acid dip tank..

Any suggestions ?

i've used bb's in the past.... washers is a good idea too. Just keep going.

I have heard about a coating that can applied to the inside. Not sure how much that would cost though. Any way to get a new tank?

Well.. another arm wrenching half hour worth and a shot with the " PRESSUE WASHER !! " o-- And it's gonna need the polymer coat treatment.

I managed to get it down to nice and shiny where i could hit it with the pressure wash.. ( Imagine the look on my neighbors faces.. this is March in - 6c and a foot of snow on the ground.. and i'm out with the pressure washer !! lol " I rinsed it out with methyl hydrate to get the water out and then followed it with more gas.. but still.

I'm going to call Radiator shops on monday and bring it in to have it acid treated and then coated with an epoxy lining ( can't recall the name of the stuff.. but ) prob cost me about 60 $ or so.

I got it running ! ( well.. the motor part ! :jesta: )

I removed the carb and cleaned it out, found a mountain of crud in it.. I ran a gas line directly to a gas jug instead of the bike's tank.. and remove the plug. poured in a bit of fuel.. put the plug back on and hit the starter...

Brroommmmmmmm put put put put....... :ll

You were right about the battery needing a full charge for the starter to work correctly and stay engaged.. i topped it off on a 1 amp charger for a few hours and the starter grabbed right away ! and did not slip !

Now to get that tank delt with... the rad shop wants 95 $ to coat it.. i can get a do-it-yourself kreem kit for half that.. but i have a friend with a business acount at another shop.. he's going to check for me this week.

check with some shops in hawaii, they might be able to get you a dio sr tank, those bikes have the tank in the floor too, you might want to get a new fuel pump too.

Well.. i got my gas tank back from the rad shop... cost me 100 $ to have them acid dip it.. coat the inside with a commercial polymer liner and re-paint the outside with fresh black paint... :yippy:

Looks sweet ! I'm bolting it in tomorrow morning !

.

Question on the fuel pump... should i open that sucker up and clean it or just leave it alone? I'm afraid of wrecking some seals. but i think it's in the same condition as my carb was.. and the tank...
