Went to the dealer yesterday to get some parts. Asked for a plug for my Zuma. Parts guy sez "Whaddya want that for?" I said "I'm tuning my Zum. If the plug's trashed, I'll have one to replace it with." He sez "That's weird. Nobody ever replaces their Zuma plugs. Sure you want one?" I said "Umm, yeah. I'll take a chance." "I'll have to see if we have one in stock," he sez.

OK, is that actually true? Granted, I haven't had the Zuma that long, but my previous experience with 2-strokes would seem to indicate that 1 backup plug is not a silly thing to have.

Or is it really true that I don't have to ever replace the plug?

Well the owner's manual for both the Vino & the Zuma clearly states to either re-gap or replace the spark plug at the required service intervals. 300 miles, 2000 miles, etc.

Your dealer is proabably like my local Yammie dealer--they don't know diddly squat about scooters. _o They view scooters as low man on the totem pole.
I refuse to pay my dealer $75 an hour to use my scooter as their guinea pig for learning to service & repair scooters.

I replace mine once every 1000km at least. Sure it will last a long long time but performance will suffer long before it completely craps out. I put 5000+ km on my scoot in 5 months last year.

Dealers get a fortune for a $2 plug.

In a perfectly tuned scooter world plugs will last a long, long, long time. Other things come into play such as gas, type of oil, atmospheric conditions and last but not least, riding habits. My experience with 2s is keep one handy.

Yeah, he just sounds like any other ill manered scooter hater. I really wish I could think of the pre-gap offhand, but ngk makes them pre-gapped, just buy some from the website if you want, they're only $3.00 each, carry one in your scoot trunk because if your scoot decides to not start one day, that would be the first thing i'd check.

pregapped when they stick them in the box... then they get thrown around in shipping and at the dealer/parts store... then by you when you buy it... and by time you install it.... the gap is way smaller then it was to begin at the factory and needs to be regapped....

you shoulda spit in his face, lmao. who would really say that? he must not know anything about scoots or engines in general. always have a selection of plugs handy for tuning purposes.

BTW: your dealer is worthless if that is what they told you... I wouldn't have spit in their face... jail sounds like no fun to me...

But, just get online and search for the stock plug and order a box of them... 5-10... you'll use them anyway eventually...

yeah, that is a J/A response. Keep in mind that the "counter" guys usually do not know much more than looking up stuff on microfish. The techs on the other hand *should* know more, and be somewhat competant.

Buy yourself a spark plug gapping tool for a couple bucks and then find the cross reference for your stock plug so you can go to any auto parts store and pick up a plug when you need them and at reasonable prices. Dealers suck!
