In the Zuma manual it said not to go the top speed for long periods of time. why is that? I have to drive at top speed for 5 miles at a time to get to school.

I think the Yamaha lawyers came up with that...Members on here routinly cruise around ALL day at full throttle on their Stock and modded Zumas. I'm sure some testimonials will follow here Paul... if you check back later.

there is nothing wrong with going the top speed for long periods of time.
just break in the motor properly for the suggested peroid of time, then start to giver

You could be talking about my Zuma as well. WOT all the time and a belt is the only thing ever to go. I run a 60 mile round trip 3 time a week and it amazes me the way this little 50 cc performs. Yamaha came up with a winner and wouldn't you know it, they quit making it. I am still amazed at the difference installing a windshield makes. I am getting paranoid now because am I pegging the needle on every decline and hold at least 3 mph better otherwise. I think I will pull the trans cover in the morning and check the belt for wear. I broke my stock one at about 2100 mile if I remember correctly and I am now at 3800 miles. I must say that I was hitting some strong winds tonight and could feel them more than I used to but I didn't lose any speed and there was no real bad buffeting.

if ur stock wot shouldn't be a problem. once ur modded it might be due to overheating, but if tuning is done properly then its normal to run wot a lot.

Blame the DOT. No more two strokes.

Must not be Santa Ana winds. Going home is a gradual increase in grade...not really noticable...unless you are on a Zuma and getting hit in the chest with a Santa Ana wind. Then you wonder if the bike is going to make it.
