I'm starting on the stage II and have a question on the carb. My kit came with a foam filter (air) does this mean that I do away with the factory airbox?.
BTW I'll have more questions later. Thanks

yes, you can do away with the stock airbox... Some people prefer to use the stock airbox... others the open filter...
the bad part about the open filter, is that it's subject to the weather more... Meaning you can such up water easier...
The open filter also makes much more noise...

Thanks Jered,
Next Q, which jet would you suggest, I have three different sizes, s, m, l (for lack of the numbers, as I am at work). I'm going with the foam filter, or probably go on the hunt for a K&N.

stage 2, I used a 90 jet in my airsal... it worked perfect... I'm at sea level here in anchorage... so no issues of being lean or rich...
jetting can make a difference in 1 size difference, so s,m,l is kinda hard to tell you which to use...
erich sent out a 90 jet with mine... I also got I think a 100 jet from him as well after the fact, when I went with a different cylinder...

In both NY and here in VA I used the 95 mainjet and it worked fine with both my Airsal and the Corsa.

Open filters are pretty loud. On bigger carbs they're painfully loud. Arreche has flex tubing that fits the carb. It's easy to locate the filter in your seat box. Quiet. Weatherproof. Clean. And, depending on how well armed your neighbors are, can add significant time to your lifespan.

My jet sizes are 65, 80, 95 (s,m,l), I went with the 95.
Next Q: What happens with the "push" cable from the throttle, let it hang or remove it? I'm thinkin' of getting rid of it and place it in my big box of stock parts :D

You put the barrel clamp on it and use it as a throttle return stop.

I removed mine after breaking one of the cables (after lots of riding abuse)... The only problem was that the throttle could spin backwords...
I recommend a barrel clamp as pinky mentioned to allow the throttle to keep from rotating backwords (a goofy design by yamaha)

Just swapped out the .49 for the .7l, and am installing the carb.
Q: Which port should I place the small black hose that goes to the bottom/back of the motor? I have two ports on the carb where this hose could fit, one is by the oil injector the other is in the "piston" barrel.
Thanks for all your input, folks.

Everything is installed ... won't start. I have all the lines installed according to previous posts/threads, getting suction at intake. any ideas?

OK, I know that I'm a bag of questions. But I finally got 'er started :yippy: :yippy: :yippy: :yippy: :yippy:
Now I only have to tune up the carb, that means getting outside and freezing my (self) off. I understand that wouldn't be a problem for anyone up No'th in Alaska :naught: But I'll wait till tomorrow when the sun is out.
I learned a lot doing this and hope that I can be some help later.

yeah, it's over freezing for the 3rd day in a row... only 3 more inches of ice on the roads to melt off before I can ride! LOL!
glad you got it started...

I seem to be having a choke problem (cuts off as soon as I give it gas, wait about 40 seconds, warms up, good to go).
Q: Should I splice in the Yamaha choke harness in with the Arreche harnes? The new choke connector looks exactly like the Yamaha one, except for the color.

When I got a 19mm the connectors were different. Had to splice. I was never happy with the way the choke worked on the AC stock circuit, so I wired the choke to the fuel level sender, which is hot when the ignition is on. It worked much better on the DC current. I thought so, anyway.

For me, waiting is no real prob. I'll look at it tomorrow. pull out my downloaded manual, check out the schematics, voltage and probably use your advice pink. Thanks.

cstaup,
please post what you ended up doing... i'm in the middle of a stage two kit and after fighting w/ the throttle cable i was really struggling to get it to start when cold... i couldn't tell if the choke was working at all... i had to hand choke it to get started... i'm currently redoing the throttle cable deal, and i am very interested in what you work out w/ the choke...
thanks david

Did you have any issues with getting air in the box under the seat. Mine is rather tight and keeps out the weather. I can't imagine it getting enough air.

I think you can get plenty of air in the seatbox as it is. To be on the safe side, though, I drilled a bunch of holes just under the top edge, on the rear of the box. Works great.

It starts now with one touch o'th'starter. 2 strokes really dont have that much vacuum, so it took a while 'till the carb was full. I currently have my carb set to run rich, that means that I have to let it warm up for about 30 seconds. Also I put a K&N out the left side. No air restriction leaves a real touchy fuel delivery, again, warm up. The choke works for me, I found one of the terminal clips was pushed out of its socket.
