Can someone tell me the differences in the Old vs. New Zuma? Cosmetically, I see the differences. What if any is different mechanically?
Thanks

totally different motor...
the new (bug eye) motor, the piston is horizontal, meaning move front and back..
the pre bug... is vertical, meaning it moves up and down...
therefore the exhaust are completely different (one mounts on the bottom (bug eye), and the other on the side...
The intakes are different, the bug eye being on the engine case and the prebug on the cylinder....
100% different scooter... nothing on them are compatable...
I think the only reason yamaha named them both zuma's is that they have the retarded looking headlights (I own one so I can say that)...

OK Thanks for the explaination.
Is the new Zuma motor similar to the vino 50?
What are the power differences in the new and old Zuma?
I happened to buy an older model, so I'm hoping to hear good things, but then I'd rather have honesty if there are issues.
More power, less, the same.
More efficient design, less?
Any light you can shed on this would be appreciated.
OH, and before I go. What modifications or upgrades will work well on this little beast? I plan on riding it around town at the beach, but want to give it a little sex appeal and make it move beyond 37 mph.
Thanks,
Steve :8wave:

if ur not getting past 37mph, i think u have to de-restrict the scooter first.
im not really sure on this (canadian bws (same as zuma) have no restrictors).
there should b one in ur pipe and ur variator

if you have a prebug zuma then 37mph is all you are going to get out of it stock. you can et some performance parts to help you out. start out with a front pulley, gears, and a clutch. that should get you close to 50mph.

That's funny, I hit 41 on gps completely stock with a removed washer from behind the finned pulley.

the prebug (older one) is better... it's easier to make faster...
It's not similar to the vino... (which is like the bugeye zuma) but the tranny is shorter...

OK, so the earlier zuma, the one I just bought, is easier to make faster. Great.
I've read the tips on derestricting the exhaust, removing the washer as the first two things to do.
Beyond that in terms of priority and economic benefit for the dollar, what are the modifications you would make and in what order? What is the greatest benefit.
I don't want to race it. I just want to ride in aound the beach this summer. However, that having been said, I have to pull out onto Route 1 and accelerate quickly to get up to speed with the traffic. I hate it when some big Ford PU holds on my tail. 50 mph would be good.
Help.

There is no washer in the exhaust for the older zuma, you read the how-to's for the Vino. However, there is a washer right behind the finned pulley. Many people on here say that it did nothing for them, but I will honestly tell you that I got 2-3 mph out of removing it. When I got it stock it went 37 and when I took that washer off it went well past the 40 mph mark.

i dont think that the prebug zuma is easier to make faster. i think the bikes with the laydown engine are easier to make faster because they respond to mods better and you get more out of them with simple mods. if you want to only go 50mph the tranny mods are good for that.

wow, how come. prebugs can get 55mph easy. i think you guys should be using taller gears. i think when you put gears on your bugeyes you are using gears that are only a tad better then stock.
