View Full Version : Help
About 8 moths ago I purchased a 70cc kit from Provo Scooter for a 1986/1987 Yamaha CE50T. This is a vertical engine. meaning the sparkplug points up. The kit is an AIRSEAL. The only number on the box is #001318476. It is supposed to fit CT50, CR50, Zuma, SPY50, BWS, and Slinder. I installed the piston with ring - no problem. I then tried to install what Yamaha calls the carburetor joint, (reed block or reed valve assembly) I found it dosn't fit. The new cylinders Reed block mounting holes are wider and taller than the stock one.
Does anyone have any suggestions, parts that I can purchase?
I also noticed, during disassembly, the tin air shroud or the rubber/plastic air shroud will not fit on the new cylinder head.
I would appreciate any help.
Sincerely,
Andy

I'm guessing the intake manifold doens't fit as well as the air ducting (black plastic piece that surrounds and direct the air over the cylinder)...
Hrm... to me it sounds as though your cylinder is not correct for your scooter... but can't say 100%...
Don't have a digital camera to post pictures. The 70cc kit is for a pre-2002 Zuma. I was told by someone on this fourm the pre 2002 is what I needed and it would work. There s no 70cc kit for my CE50T. The post by Jered is correct. The intake manifold does not fit nor does the black plastic piece.
The intake bolt pattern is about 1/8" wider and taller on the new cylinder, which rules out machining an adaptor plate.
I could sure use some guidence/help.

best I can say is to get another cylinder... I can't say that erich will be able to help you out on the one you have but should be able to get the correct cylinder...
Not sure why or how you got the incorrect cylinder... You might have to order a new intake... if everything bolts up but that... the fan shroud... you need to have in place... as it's the only way the cooling system works...
Just thought of something else. The stock piston, pin and rings weigh 75.3 grams. The 70cc kit weighs 98.5 grams. The 70cc piston, pin and ring weighs 23.2 grams more.
If I do need another cylinder I hope erich will take this one back. It's brand new.

So, the block fits, and gaskets line up. Its just the reed block that won't match? Since you state there is not 70cc kit for the CE, you may have to take it from here. Try and get creative. Choose what carb you're going to run, and get a reed block (aftermarket CF reeds/block) for one of the other types of scooters, like a pre-bug. This should connect your cylinder and carb. Now you may have to either fabricate new shrouding, or buy one for another scooter, but matches the cylinder. Before ordereing anything, keep your part numbers for reference, as well as scooter numbers/year, and explain your situation.
How does one download pictures?

Select "Advanced post" then scroll down to Aditional options (Manage Attachments) it will open up another screen that will let you browse your files for the picture/pictures you want. Upload the pictures then post the reply.
These are some of the pictures. I hope this helps.

It appears as though you will need to buy an aftermarket manifold and reedcage for it to fit the airsal. Contact Erich (owner of Provo) to see if he can get those parts or if he can help you out some. sales@provoscooter.com
