I have an 04 zuma with airsol 70cc kit, technigas pipe, 19mm carb (110/jet), technomoto variater with lightest weights, stock belt, malossi clutch/upgear kit (white springs). 20-70ft above sea level. when i first put it together it was fast 60-65mph and would power band all the way there. now after about 100 miles or so it only goes 40mph. now it starts out real good and pulls hard to 20-25mph then it dies out and gets real flat and doesnt seem to rev as high. any ideas?

I thought mine was in the high 50's to low 60 when I first installed the parts I have on mine... however after I chopped my speedo needle to allow it to spin all the way around I figured I was only going 47-48 mph...
Now with a CDI unit upgrade and primary drive gearing change, I am pushing 55mph...
I was mistaking when I thought I was hitting 60... Did you get this checked my a chaser car or anything? What are you using as a speedo guage?
Just a thought... open it all back up and verify that it is all tight... However with the zuma with the parts you listed should only be going around 45-58mph...

you also may need to clean or open up your airbox. i would recommend getting a malossi CDI for 64.50 and a SS racing coil 45.00
the cdi will help your motor run better with a 70 and give you higher rpm. and the coil get better combustion, and about 2 hp gain on 70cc kits

I would suggest to check the rollers and torque spring to see if they are in good conditions.
The funny thing is you have good acceleration in the low end, but no power in mid-range and top end...This usually happen when your roller weight but I don't think this is the case. Is you take off good at all?

yes, my take-off is real good till 20-30mph. it screams real nice! then bogs down like its goin from 1st gear to 4th if it was a manual tranny. then its just stays below powerband and creeps to 40mph or so. the variator has the lightest weights that came with it. the worst part is it was great at 1st. i kitted it at 79 miles and it was real good till about 200miles. i was riding with my buddys and they were riding street bikes. i was able to ride on the long island expressway and all. it was 60mph and with a full tuck it was 65-67ish.now just 40mph with nothing eles changed.

once again people saying they are going above 60... What type of mountains are you guys riding down?
Nop way a stage 1 zuma can get over 50....
Sorry I don't buy it!
Not ragging on you but I just can't believe it as mine that is modded to hell, can't go 60mph!

pre bug eyed can do 60 with a 70cc kit and 17.5 and exhuast, and 68 with varaitor and that is GPS speed

jollymoto carbon fiber for 70cc
if you are getting the MHR cylinder Kit the best exhuast for the cylinder is the Malossi MHR exhuast the malossi is about 325 usd and the Jolly motor is about 480.00 if you wan somthing good and cheap
Leo'Vincie Sprinter, this exhuast looks tight
ixil twin race is a duel exhuast and chome in chrome and welded to perfection.

pre 2002 zumas are alot lighter very lite the 2002++ is really heavy. I changed my belt today and it grabs at low rpm's and low end is really weak I have stock rollers thinking of getting a zx pipe at the dealer 129.99+₧. Will it help a stock 50cc motor? Then thinking after the pipe of getting malossi or polini big bore. Will the pipe fit on to the 70cc cylynder same mountings?

where can you get this pipe for this price?? does it come with springs and rollers?

all pipes will fit that are for the same models as the cylinder a pipe for a zuma will fit a zuma cylinder 50 or 70.
the pipe will help but the Zx is lame when compaired to the other exhuast.
the zx is blit for power not speed and power. now the leo vince sprinter, tecnias next racing, racing 70 and malossi pipes are good.
the best pipe ther is i have ever test even better the the MHR malossi 70cc exhuast, is the Jolly Moto 70cc exhuast, this thing is tight and has 3x the power of the zx and and a good 8-14mph gain in speed.
granted it dont look that good but as some would say "welded to perfection"

the twin pipe is junk. if you guys want a pipe for the zuma get the polini evo, mhr, or jolly moto. oh yeah those pipes dont look like crap, they look like how a real pipe is supposed to look.

i still havent got the zuma ove 40-42. a freind of mine has a few racing snow mobiles said it sounds like maybe a reed problem. i installed carbon reeds when i upgraded. could that be the problem? im loosin intrest in this scooter fast. only 200+ miles into my first scooter. having a few motorcycles doesnt help much with my drive to correct this issue much. i also have an exaust leak where the pipe bolts to the jug. could this loss of back preasure be the problem? im gonna get up some drive and put the stock reeds back in tonite and see if it will help? any other ideas are welcome!!

Do you have a stock airbox?
thc70
10-20-2004, 10:41 PM
yes but i tryed it with out the air box and there was little diff. it runs hard to 30mph the just falls flat and levels at 40-42. it drives me crazy! when i 1st put it together it ran hard to 55-60 mph and that was clocked with my wifes trailblazer and a few of my freinds bikes 04 zx10 01 gsxr1300 and a 95 klx650 so i know the speed was correct. the best it would go was 64mph on an open strech (pre-upgear kit) since the 40mph problem i have put in the upgear kit but havent been able to test max speed. ive tryed every jet in the caeb from the 95 to a 120 bolth with stock airbox wich is opened up on the backside. i have been a 2stoke pearson for 20 years and have seen this problem. i have a kx500 thats a screamer. im just new to scooters and i am willing to try anything to correct this issue. i even did a compression test and thers no issuse there either. could it be a bad variator. it feels like it goes from 2nd gear to 5th thats the best way i can descibe it.

Have you try drop the roller weight a little bit?
Spark plug could also be a problem to this.
oh, never try a GP1, have no idea how it is.

I have came to the determination that I have to much power for my 04 model zuma, See my scootergarage profine if you don't know what I have installed... I just put a kevlar belt on... felt like it gripped much better... but then realized that I was slipping...
I know I was slipping with the stock belt as the variator side was 1/4 warn off...
Now the problem is... I tried it with the technomoto variator... which ate belts.... With the stock one which slips even worse!
I am unsure what I can do to correct the problem... but plain and simple... I have to much power for the stock or technomoto variator to handle...
Not sure if there are other ones that will work or not... When I get spare cash I will order the malossi variator and see if that is nice to me or not...
However they are predicting snow this coming week... so I doubt I'll get to test anything till spring now... I guess I could rev it in my garage... which currently I hear the belt slipping...
I also hear the belt slip from 10mph rolling and WOT the scooter... The belt will spin...
  :(

Your problem can be the airbox. Did you drill it after you went over 60. Did you make any openings anywhere? Thats what happeng to me I had an aftermartket filter on the carb and it was bogging on top end I put a stock airbox and it SCREAMED!!! On top end.
