View Full Version : Dumb Goggle Question

Okay, this might be a dumb question, but the temp is in the 30's to 40's around here, and the wind was stinging my eyes, so I bought a set of goggles from a motorcycle place. Not MotoX/Ski type, but dual eye type goggles. They work great, until I stop and wait for a red light. Then they fog up like crazy. I must look like an idiot, not to mention it being borderline unsafe. Once I get going again they clear up. I tried "anti-fogging" stuff, spit, soap. I even tried another brand.

Is there a trick I'm missing here? What if I enlarged the vent holes on the sides?
Any ideas? Getting desparate,

Jim

I have anti fog spray I use on my visor... works great... It's like $4.00 a bottle and will last a LONG time... most any motorcycle shop will have it... might have to pay a little more there though.

I've already tried a spray from a cycle shop that was about $4 a bottle. I don't know if it was the same stuff. It didn't work that great. It said "the more you put on, the better it works", so I've probably put on about 30 coats. Only slight improvement.

I'm going to try some slime called "Cat Crap" from a snowboard shop next. I'll post my results.

I was going to recommend trying cat crap, but I've never tried it myself.

Ok, here it is...

Cat Crap works good. It almost completely eliminated fogging while waiting for a red light.

I'm sold.

I don't think I have ever had a pair of goggles that didn't fog up. It is because the air inside the goggles around the eyes is warm and the outside air is cold. Causes condensation. The anti-fogging stuff you spray on the lenses forms a thin insulation to prevent contact with the cold air. A thin layer Petroleum jelly would work just as good, but you would'nt be able to see anything.

If they're the kind you wear over your helmet, when you have to stop pull them up off of your eyes, and them back down when the light turns green...It beats spray stuff that may or may not work! Gabe ::usa::

I have a pair of those motorcycle wrap around sun glasses that have the strips of styrofoam around the lenses. They fog up and I just pull them forward on my nose while at stop lights and stop signs.

I use a full face helmet - wouldn't ride with anything else. I've just been riding for a couple of months and have had two hard objects hit my helmet, probably small pebbles. With the stone chips I get in my Ford Explorer's windshield, I want my face fully covered on my motor scooter.

I have had a little fogging of my sun glasses at stop lights. Simply lifting the visor while waiting for the light to change takes care of it.

Our instructor at my motorcycle riding course only wears a full face helmet and that is what he advises folks to wear. Even with that, he told about an experience he had that teaches one not to open the visor until one is completely stopped.

He pulled into a rest stop on the Interstate here in AZ once and, when he slowed down to under 10 mph, he figured it was time to open his visor. Big mistake he said; he then ran into a swarm of bees before he stopped.

Back in 1971 I was riding my first motorcycle, a pretty little burgandy + cream colored '67 Yamaha 250, In the springtime, helmetless, and singing a song. I ingested a June Bug and like to have run off of the road! It was close for a few moments until I finally got that sucker swallowed! I haven't ridden without a helmet with a face shield, or opened my mouth often when riding since! :) Gabe ::usa::

I have always riden with a half helmet, untill the fall of last year. I was crusing around the back roads at about 40 mph when a bee hit me in the cheak while stinging me on impact.... needless to say, I have worn a full face helmet ever since!
