Hey, as some of you might know... I blew my transmition and stripped my crankshaft. So, I was wondering if it is difficult to install a new one, or should I just take it to Yamaha and let them handle it (at $75 an hour!!)?

probably going to have to remove the cylinder as well to get the crankshaft out...

It looks as though you need to only replace parts of the set up... Piece number 2 in the 1st pic...
Might not have to replace the whole set up.

Haha, thats a lotta dough for a starving student! Thats a good idea though. If the yamaha quote is huge, I'll just install a malossi race crank. Only problem is, who sells em?!
Ohh Jered, your right... only piece 2 was messed up. Do you think I'll have to take everything apart to replace it?

there is a write up on the yamaha Zuma site... It explained how to open the case up! Seamed like more than I ever care to do!

Here is a basic info page on the crank install! Sounds liek something that could turn difficult quick!
However probably will save a BUNCH of money if you do it yourself!

Well, Yamaha just called and gave me a quote as to how much its gonna be to fix the vino. Good news is, the crank is fine... bad news, I still need $123 in other parts. All together it's gonna be $390 to fix  !!! Shouldn't be suprised though, their charging me $75 an hour..... :(

if you stripped your crank, what "$123 in other parts" could you need???

Some stripped screws (which I think they stripped), finned pully, but the killer was a new kick start assembly.

It's a little late.
I found a great site out of WA to buy OEM parts.
My local dealer didn't want to sell me some individual stuff
I bought a body panal, some screws, and new license bracket from them.

If you were gonna try an save $$$ doing it yourself.
