Hello all. Iv'e got a question about the 50cc honda ruckus. My wife really wants to get one. Are they good considering they are 4 stroke liquid cooled? I know i like the 2 stroke more power. But all in all wouldn't the ruckus last alot longer then the 2 stroke. And 1 last question how hard is it to get after market parts for it? Info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. ::handleba

I'd say if she wants a 4stroke then get the new 4stroke LC Vino. I dont know of anyone who actually owns a Ruckus here on the forums. And as for mods, I think there are a few but nothing that would be worth the huge pricetag.

I think that the ruckas would be okay since sooznd, mentioned that the metropolitin (not II) will go 40 mph... unrestricted...
don't get onec that only goes 25 mph... or you'll regret it...

ask the dealer if you can test ride...if they refuse...then you don't want to buy from them any way...but then again....if 25 is the max forget it....and as speedy said i think the LC Vino would last longer....but i have seen some wild ruckus's....but i can also only imagine how much they spent???

BTW: many MANY dealers WILL NOT allow test rides anyway!
My dealer, IMO a pretty good one.. .won't allow test rides... on 4 wheelers, motorcycles, scooters, anything... It's an additional insurance I agree would be CRAZY expensive...

when i bought mine.... I insisted on a test ride...and as long as i wore a helmet they were OK with it...because there insurance stated / saftey...always wear a helmet!

dealer around here give no test rides. People dont wanna buy scoots with any miles on them for full retail.
Just like sports cars. Cant test drive without money in hand. At least that aws my experience when i bought my ticket fetcher.
XPS1210
11-12-2005, 10:12 PM
heck I had money in hand... they wouldn't let me test ride it till the paperwork was done... Period... Which when they explained the insurance issues... it makes since...
think about it... they really would have to insure every person who walked in asking to test one... even if they said only those who are over 21... can you imagine what the insurance would cost you... WOW!
Or on the other side of it.. signing a statement that you pay if you damage it... then not having a means of payment or not being approved for credit to pay...
either way the dealer would/could be screwed... so it makes since... it sucks but it does make since...

Wizard-
The Ruckus only comes in one version unlike the Honda Met--they do not make a restricted slower version.. It has the same engine as the Met, but is heavier,so may go slower. Pm'd you some more info.

Thank you sooznd for the pm. She actually doesnt care how fast it goes. She really only wants it to go around the great park with. Shell be happy as long as she can get a nice aftermarket pipe for it. As long as it does 50 or 60 km shell be happy. She just likes the look of the little bugger. It reminds her of when she was a kid camping with her family and they brought along her little keysone bike. For any of you dont know what that is. Well its a ruckus...lol with a rototiller motor in it. Little mini bike. Thanx for all the reply's.

On a woman's perspective...am I crazy but doesn't the Ruckus lack storage space? What if you grab some groceries on the way home?
Get a Zuma while you still can. Zip and storage for a bag of groceries. (Sorry...I am so Zuma prejudiced it's silly.)

the fastest most souped up ruckus barely goes 50 mph. Theres a forum for ruckus and you can spend huge money one one of those pipes (like 300$) but you cant do much to the motor. They do look cool but normal max speed of unmod'd is like 36 mph. I guess that they are actually keeping them "no tag legal"

yeah theres a pic of that on the ruckus forum. Huge hassle bc u have to redo all the wiring etc. Whats the point of buying a 2500$ scoot then putting a 1990's 2 stroke on it? Why not buy a 1990s 2 stroke to begin with.

doesnt necessarily last longer. Stock 2 strokes are very reliable. Plus normal maintainence on a 2 stroke is easy. 4 strokes are just slower.

Hi,
here's mine:

Performance are pretty tame due to the 4 stroke engine, but that's not really why most of us get them. They're fun to mod and and you can go pretty wild with the style. I would not want a Ruckus as my main form of transportation, but to scoot around town in style I think it works pretty well.

I like the looks of those rukkiis. I just dont like there power. But for reliability i sure think the 4 strokes are better especially watercooled. I'm gonna buy one:) When i want to have some real fun i go back to my Zuma.

small 4 stroke dont have that much power. On most forums people want fast and easy to mod. Inteh real work though, 4 strokes are appealing bc very little maintenance and hi reliabilty. Plus low emissions.
Theres nothing wrong with the ruckus. Tuned, its about as fast as a stock zuma. But if you live in an area with 35 mph speed zone etc, its quite adequate. The average person doesnt need to go 60 mph on a small scooter. I see tons of scooters around here now and they are all stock and the owners are completely happy. Myself, I kinda laugh bc I can ride my bike basically as fast.
Everyone has different priorities. If my scoot breaks down (which it does like everyday) i know its just a hobby and I have 2 cars to drive around. Some people use them everyday. If i had to rely on the scoot for getting to work, then there's NO way I would mod it and a reliabe 4 stroke would be more appealing (but not a 50cc, 150cc minimum)

the thing taht is crazy as that Yoshi pipe costs as much as a Yasuni which wil put out like 2 or 3x the HP on a 2 stroke.
Those ruckus look cool as hell. I wanted one til i did more research.

Well i guess if you have a zuma to fall back on the ruckus wouldn't be so bad. Just think low and slow cruising thrue town. I mean you know every once and awhile. I dont know they look cool. Nice exhaust by the way looks good :ll

11-20-2005, 08:21 AM
Thanks, it sounds really good too, but it didn't really add anything in the performance category, which I knew it wouldn't, it's just next to impossible to get cheap hp out of the 4 stroke and even when you drop serious cash it's still not going to be there... but it will look like nothing else on the road and it will be fun to ride.
If performance is your main conscern, stay away from the small 4 stroke scooters.

I'm in the SF Bay Area. Ruckus works perfect for me, I use it to get to BART (commuter train), which is 2 miles from my house on city streets and on the weekends with my crew of modded Ruckuses. We'll go on long rides throughout the Bay Area, it's great to see the faces of the Harley guys when they see a bunch of Ruckuses 5000 feet up on top of mountain... "How'd you guys get up here??... and WTF are those??!"... :cylon:

I have ridden a ruckus and eventhough my Zuma blows it away to 40 it still goes 40. There is one around here with 13,000 miles on ht stock motor. So IMHO it is a good reliable and quality scoot. I still prefer my Zuma but the 2 stroke is not for everyone. That is a sweet looking Ruckus. If you dont mind me asking, how much money do you have in that? How fast does it go? Still the stock 50cc? Thanks

Thanks guys!
Yeah, the Ruckus is definitely not for anyone who wants/needs to break 45 on flats. My engine mods are on the mild side and I can barely get to 43-44, stock I was getting 37. Downhill with the CDi it will do 50+. Only way to increase displacement is a bore and new piston, there are no available 75cc kits like for the two stroke engines and I'll probably drop a new cam in it this summer, get a couple extra MPH in there somewhere. I've probably dropped $1500-$2000 worth of mods on it. But for a fun little reliable toy it does great, it's fun to ride and work on.

A buddy of mine here has a Ruckus and loves it. I got a chance to ride it the other day and it is slower than a vino 50. The Vino is quicker. The Ruckus is smooth, rides nice, sounds like a sewing machine. Very nice, just slower than my Vino Classic. And, if you happen to be a little heavier it is hard to get up a substantial hill.

In Japan they like to swap in 100cc Minarelli engines.
Took the Ruckus to Las Vegas with some of my friends for the High Rollers Weekend:

Yeah, the lack of speed, even with decent mods, is hard to get over, but it's hard to beat when it comes to just cruising down the boulevard. We trailed this new Viper down the Vegas strip and the poor guy must have been frustrated to have wasted his rental money on a sports car only to be upstaged by a bunch of weird little scooters. I'm probably going to get a Morpheus in spring for real scootering, but the Ruckus will still get taken out on the weekend... or I might try to get a hold of the 125cc engine from the new NPS6 and see if it will fit.

That white Ruckus is sweet! I would probably get a 250 Ruckus if they didn't cost so much. For a few hundred more I'll go with the Majesty. I looked at the 50 Ruckus when I bought my Zuma but none of the local dealers would even give a fair deal on one. To be honest the Yammy dealer that I went to was the only one near my area that sold for suggested price. All the other dealers had big markups. I guess I will start dealing with scooters like I do cars - buy used and let someone else take the beating. :naught:

I had origionally wanted to buy a ruckus, but when i took a trip to my yammy dealer I was taken instantly by the Zuma. I still admit the ruckus might be good for a 2nd scoot... but that would be a LONG while from now (15 year old+ part time job at pizza place= not too much money) :---

The bottle is the coolant reservoir, the pipe was $400 and yes that's the radiator on the side! :ll
4 strokes make a lot less hp than 2 strokes and performance mods are limited, but they last a lot longer, get better MPG, smell better and sound really sweet. The ruckus is just too much fun to customize.
