okay, So here is what I found...

Lennox... and all others who are working for the moddedest zuma...

Plug all the CDI unit's wires in to the corisponding color wires...

Now the scooter will not start with the key in the "on" position or the thumb switch to on...

However turn the key off or switch the thumb switch to off...

the damn thing'll start ring up... With the kick start that is...

Don't understand why but for some reason there is a wiring problem... This is how malossi did it on purpose as this is the correct CDI for the zuma...

So... I am going to do some research tonight on what needs to be changed to make the ignition switch work properly as well as the thumb switch...

I have heard that the thumb switch becomes useless after installing a new CDI... So we'll see...

Oh yeah... the scooter will run with the key in OFF.... and the thumb switch in either position... however DON'T DO this... your lights (tail and blinker) don't work.... put the key to the ON position and the thumb switch to off...

Also the other draw back is that anyone who wants to can start your scooter... (this is bad... As it takes all of 1 minute or less to plug the new wires in the CDI connection... even on a unmodded scooter... A new way for scooter thief's to take the scooters easily...wiothout a KEY!

So if you are parking yours outide... don't use it till we figure out the wire mod... or anyone that wants it can take off with it...

well Jered, you are right AGAIN. The "defective" CDI works fine using this method.

Too late tonight to do any testing, but is runs!

Maybe when "kingvino" reads this he can put all CDI threads into one?
(this ones for you larry;) )

Hey, lennox....

Did you install yours yet?

HAven't heard from you... Still alive and kicking from all the hurricanes? You posted a little today and yesterday but haven't heard from you....

Just wondering if you have installed the CDI unit yet? I'm not sure but wondering if you can tell me how much your RPM's are increased... Mine are only a little... I think I might be having a small compression leak... I need to make a new gasket for my cylinder as the old one (between the cylinder and the crank case) has a small tear in it... Thinking maybe that might be hindering the performance a little...

I swear it has got to be able to push more speed and power out than it is...

Here is what gets me... To start, my electric choke likes to stay on... So it's a fight to keep it running right.. Hopefully will get the manual choke by friday's mail run...

I swear it dropped 2 mph since I have installed the gears and CDI... Now I can only get into the 2nd digit on the odometer... I think that the choke might have something to do with it... But With the gears and the new CDI, I'd have thought I should be able to push a little more out of the top end...

I'm not 100% sure that with the CDI installed the way I have it, that it increased the RPM's much... I swear with it installed the 1st time it rev'd a little higher... But without the tach, can't be totally sure...

Just want to make sure I'm getting what I am supposed to get out of the parts... You know...

I can say that even with the choke killing me... I no longer have problems with the engine wanting to bog, or die at lights (except when COLD temps) when it's above 40ish it runs awesome and strong... but not sure about the rpm's...

Just wanted to get your oppinion as I know you got the same CDI and wanted to see if you noticed anything on the top end from it... Without the CDI installed I swear it was about 2mph slower! And with it installed I swear that there was about a 2mph top end increase...

Donno... let me know what you come up with... :D

yeah, I'm alive with minimal property damage...... But I have not even had time to LOOK at my scooters let alone ride/test them.

Hopefully this weekend I can get you some facts...... RPM's, MPH's.

U the man!

Thanks lennox... I just recieved my manual choke and will attempt to ride it tonight to work.. I might die if the roads freeze over night but don't see that happening... Will have to take a peak at the weather channel before I leave!
:D

ok Jered.......quick update....

The Malossi CDI yields about +/- 100 rpm wich equals about 1-2 mph. It dramaticly changed my powerband from 30mph to about 40mph. It also scrubbed some low end torque. These numbers are for changing cdi only..... I did not have time to do weights and springs.

With the new cdi installed, some more tuning is definatly needed. (just so no one thinks that plugging in a new cdi with no other tuning will help)

I will post more as I test/tune more........

really... I plugged the CDI in and felt it ran better... No more low end bog... I was bogged to 10mph before and now it kicks top the power band at around 5mph...

Also feels stronger above 25... All the way to around 50 or so...
