Hi, I need an AV17.5x667La 125 belt for a Geely JL50QT-14 scooter.

I ordered an 18 x 670 and tried a test fit but couldn't get the sprocket/pully off. The suggestion here is to use an impact wrench which I do have but not sure if I have an 17 mm socket.

Anyway, will the 18 x 670 fit? What's left of the original belt (which shredded to pieces) is narrower and fits down lower in the pully then the 18 mm one.

I shouldn't have agreed to take on this repair which is 45 minutes away. And now I have to make another trip to haul my compressor out there. I usually work on kids electric scooters at my own place. No more being nice.

to be honest... I can't say... the bad thing... geely's are pretty cheap scooters and usually have more problems when you start messing with them...

IE: you might be going out to fix a belt... but you might find the PLASTIC gears are damaged and the belt it fine... which is more likely the case then the belt being bad... as I have never heard anyone have enough miles on a geely to need a replacement belt..

Yeah, the more you mess with them the more they tend to have issues. =(

I fixed my stalling problem the otherday and it runs pretty good atm, still doesn't go 40mph. But mine was an impulse buy, i had the cash at the time and it seemed fun. And it was, for about a month till The DMV told me i couldn't drive it on the street. Also have that sorted out atm.

Geely's are cheap, and well, cheap.

There is also a tool that's like a vice grip with a chain that can be used to grip the pulley. I've heard those cheap automotive 12V "impact" wrenches work fine too.

How did the belt go bad? Was someone trying to change the roller weights? hahaha

p.s. the variator model scooters don't have the plastic gear, those are from the original scooters that were chain driven.

The belt actually shredded to pieces. When I opened it up I had to pull pieces of it out that were tangled up in the pullies/sprockets.

The guy already gave me $100 to work on it. So I feel obliged to finish it, but it's going to be a hassle hauling my heavy air compressor to the parking garage where the scooter is parked or getting the scooter to my shop in my minivan. I may just put the cover back on it, have him pay me for the belt and he can take it somewhere else. Cut my losses now before I get in too deep.

As of yet I still can't locate the exact same belt size. I know this new belt is going to be a hassle to put on because it's 3 mm wider which won't give me as much slack to get around the pullies. So even if I can get the front sprocket off I'm not sure if I will ever get it back together. This is pretty frustrating. I'm seriously considering quitting the scooter repair biz since working on these Chinese scooters is a real hassle.

I'm kind of shocked at all these comments about Geely scooters. Mine runs great and I don't regret buying it at all.

jollygreen.... Not sure if it's still the trend... but when geely scooters first hit auto parts stores.... they had a trend to work for 30-45 days and crap out... many people they wouldn't start... gears breaking... etc...

Unfortunately the geely company... is pretty hard to contact and/or find repair facilities... so there is not much as for as after support on them once bought...

Others like yourself... have had no problems... and are happy...? So maybe it's a few lemons... or a couple apples amoung a bunch of lemons..?

Every year that they are out, they get better. Talking with they guy that sold me mine. ( yeah i know dont' trust a salesmen) He mentioned that they don't get alot of repair jobs on the newer ones. Also talked to the clown that repairs em, he said that they are getting better as well.

Market dictates quality, just look at how much better Kai'a have gotten over the years. If you don't improve your product it will fail. Also remember that each year China's quality gets better and better as they have more capitol to invest and less goverment oversight. ( aka they don't have to pay off as many people to operate)

ATM, mine is running great. I can't drive it past my block. but its still running good. ( moving soon and dont' want to reregister, then have to register it again. )

i have 6 geely 2005 retros j-21 chain drive for rentals.
yes they have gotten better every year.
of the six one had bad compression 90lbs, at 140 km.
so i did a head job-1/4" glass plate & fine emery, better comp 105.. nope, must be the rings or cylinder so we give her a pinch of bonami.. nope. time to take off the cylinder & piston put new stuff on. wow 125lbs+ now it does 33mph+ i think the head job uped the compression ratio.
one out of six is not that great of a crummy ratio

the real problem is the lack of parts. yes you can get some from 3 or more sources if you look. i'd guess maybe
75 -80% of the parts for the scoots. hope nothing breaks that you can't get! at 750$ to your door, these really are disposable, cheep. i just keep the fa..er...large framed people off them & 18 year olds the're to ruff.. jumping curbs.

so the moral of this story is geelys arn't that bad, but buy
a venice lx or a vino (or just a better scoot)if you can .
you will have it longer & be happier. plus you can mod them, speed thats what we really want!! :smokin:
