View Full Version : Need Smooth Acceleration

Hello! I'm new to the scootering world (and this forum), and I could use everyone's help. I've got a 2004 Atlantis, completely stock, with about 45 miles on it so far. I'm happy enough with it, but when I start from a dead stop - especially when I'm turning from a stop - it accelerates very slowly for about 15 feet or so, and then the transmission seems to grab, and it takes off like a rocket. It doesn't seem to matter how I moderate the throttle, and I worry it will lead to a slideout in the rain one day. I weigh about 170, if that makes any difference.
Is this something that goes with the CVT, and I'll have to get used to? Thanks in advance for your input!

You get heavier clutch springs to match the powerband of your pipe. That way you bike wont even start rolling until you are at that "jump" you mention. No more slow then fast. Just fast.

My 2002 Atlantis is still somewhat stock..Lighter rollers worked for me..and a Heavier torque spring.

you dont even need to mess with all that.
theres a spacer <washer> in the clutch assembly just after the starter gerat and cooling fan. this is why it hesitates its sliping
look a MM,s derestriction how-to

i have both my restrictions off and im very very happy with it!

Today I took out the restrictor in the variator, and it made a big difference on my top-end speed, but it didn't seem to smooth out acceleration much. Exhaust fixes aside, perhaps my next option IS new roller weights or a heavier clutch spring. Any recommendations on weights? I'm not even sure what comes stock in the bike, so I don't kow what I've got to work with. I guess that makes me sound pretty ignorant, but it's true.

I personally, wouldnt recomend changing the stock settings , after all do have the fastest production 50 cc on the market .
get thouse restrictors off .
that pipe makes a huge diffrence mostly in top end plus i can pull off decent weelies no prob.
keep it stock and see how you like it from there

I'm still running the stock cylinder...with some clean-up grinding of my block and cylinder...But I'm Running a Polini Vario with 4.5 weights and put a 2-G polini Clutch on with the Yellow Malossi Torque spring...I'm hitting mild into the powerband.....probably around 3800-4500 RPM...but it's fun..carb and Cylinder next....

Did that help with acceleration? I'm actually pretty happy with my top speed (45-ish), but it's that unpredictable acceleration that's driving me nuts. I did take the exhaust off to get the restrictor out, and there was nothing in there. I was expecting some sort of sleeve, but there wasn't one. Did I miss something? Is there a restrictor on the intake instead? Where would I look? Thanks, everyone, for your input!

get stronger clutch springs so the bike doesnt start rolling til it hits that powerband you are feeling after 15 feet or so. easy fix.

the scooter should move only to 1-4 mph or so before it hauls butt and takes off when modded...

Mine would pull wheelies from 0... if I held the brakes and throttle WOT... it'd seriously pull up... was bad for turn lanes... as I had to baby th throttle to keep from the front wheel being loose at times...
